Velvet Elk Lounge — Local services in Boulder

Overall experience was really mixed. Staff was friendly, burger tasty, and acoustics inside the venue were awesome. The band was great! Our food order needed a follow up, but they have food deliverers and not wait staff, so if you have a need or issue related to food you have tell the bar staff and the restaurant next door addresses it...cumbersome and time consuming and not worth the time and effort. We had tickets to a show but no where does it say seating isn't guaranteed. About 1/3 of the people attending had to either sit on the floor or stand....for an hour and 45 min. Not a dance band, so sitting was expected. The seats that were there were tall chairs (I suppose to see over the people standing in front of you) or bench seats perpendicular to the stage and also tall, so everyone's feet were hanging without support, and you needed to sit sideways to watch the band. It was so uncomfortable, I can't imagine I'll be going back for a music event. The positives were very positive but not enough to overcome how physically uncomfortable it was. I read other reviews and didn't read about the seating, so I thought I'll drop this here for anyone who has foot, neck, or back issues or is generally hoping to relax and listen. They did tell us that we could sit in the booths outside the music portion of the venue and listen, but the bar noises were so loud, it wasn't really an option if you were there to...

Great venue when it's not completely packed with people. Very friendly staff. It can be a great place if they control the capacity. Here are the issues. The entrance is in the front. The bar is long and runs along the right side, and there are booths that run along the left side. Both run the full length to the back room and stage, and there is only about 4 feet of space between them, which is fine when it's not too crowded. But when the area between the bar and booths is crowded, it's very difficult to get to the bar for a drink. When you're in the back room where the bands play, getting to the bar or front entrance is very challenging. Meanwhile, the restrooms are in the very back behind the stage, so if you're hanging out in the front bar area, you have to fight your way through to get to the restrooms (when it's crowded). I went to see a band on a Saturday night. It was sold out and then some. It was too crowded throughout the venue, so much so I had to leave. Yesterday was my birthday, a very special one and my dear friend Jane and I, after having an amazing dinner at Sherpa’s In Boulder, turned the car around and went to the Velvet Elk Lounge, new to both of us.

We had tickets for the show, which was a klezmer band.

The stage was crowded with maybe 11 musicians, mostly horns, a clarinet and drums and perhaps a guitar that I couldn’t see from the back of the room it was so packed.

The energy was flying! People were dancing and moving like popcorn and the music was joyous and uplifting.

Honestly, it was the perfect place to hear a band. It was just the right size, felt intimate and yet it was spacious enough to dance.

We already had dinner and didn’t have drinks or food however, what we did see looked tasty.

The servers were all friendly, including the guy at the door who let us in with our tickets.

I would love to make this a regular place to go to. It’s open until midnight and just has the...
