See's Candies — Local services in Brea

IF YOU ARE USING A GIFT CARD (especially from Costco), please read this. My child and I usually enjoy visiting See’s Candies. I love their chocolates, and my child looks forward to getting a lollipop and the little free sample at checkout - it’s always felt like a sweet, thoughtful touch.

But on our recent visit, something felt very wrong. We bought a box of lollipops, a box of chocolates, and a few other pieces, and paid with a gift card we purchased from Costco. While we were at the register, I saw the tall male cashier give free samples to every other customer before us. But when it was our turn, he didn’t offer one.

I could tell that he skipped us on purpose. Because my child was disappointed, I spoke to him and only then did he give us a sample, but without a smile or even a simple apology.

It made me wonder: Was it because we paid with a gift card? If See’s Candies has a policy not to offer samples to customers using gift cards, that should be clearly stated at the entrance. If not, the experience feels unfair and honestly, a bit like discrimination.

Every other See’s employee we’ve met has always been kind and welcoming, which is why this experience stood out in such a negative way. Sadly, it left a bad memory for both me and my child. That cashier was the least kind employee I’ve ever...

Charming store in operation for decades at the Brea Mall. Location is on the East side---off of the Nordstrom Wing. Samples are complimentary and service is sublime.

Little things matter most and the kindness, line queue and consideration really are what keeps many customers returning. If coffee is needed, try the E-bar (Nordstrom) on the way in or any of the Starbucks in the mall.
