After having attended UGA for gymnastics classes since 2018, my eight year-old child joined their cheer team in Fall of 2023. I hoped that through a cheer team, my daughter would learn about team work and be positively impacted with messages of empowerment and the possibilities of achievement through teamwork.
Beginning the month after we joined the program, the children had to endure unnecessary drama brought on by the Coach, who is also the Director of the UGA cheer program. The parents on the team made several inquiries and asked for meetings since we only heard what was going on from our children and the communication from the coach directly to the parents was inconsistent at best. After having to take an unpaid leave of absence for a week because of having taken too much on (per the gym owner), the coach came back to our team for only 2 / 3 practices per week. The girls still were required to show up the third day every week but were given an inconsistent roster of co-coaches. During the season, at least three co-coaches left the team.
The girls were asked to share with one another what they didn't like about each other in a practice. They endured coaching strategies that are commonly viewed as toxic and unacceptable for children - they were yelled at, talked sarcastically to, told they weren't good enough, and were cussed at by the Coach/Director.
The program was very expensive. At the end of the season, the team had to miss a competition because of an illness. The Coach did not look to sub another competition into the roster. The Coach misled the team to think they had earned bids to keep competing and go on further. The parents still don't even know what was truly earned in terms of bids or not. The process of choosing competitions and whether or not the team would proceed to further competitions was completely opaque. The team spent 6 - 7.5 hours a week since June of 2023 learning and practicing one two minute routine in order to compete. They were promised at least five competitions and more if they won. They only got four, of which two they did win. It was a sincere let down not to be able to continue to compete after all of that investment.
Various parents escalated the issue to the Owner multiple times throughout the season. The Owner often used an "I've been out of town" as an excuse to not having been available or not being aware of what was going on. It is my opinion that being out of town or on vacation is not an excuse a business owner can use. After the final weekend when the Coach cussed the girls out seconds before the girls took the stage and after weeks of asking, the Owner finally met with several parents and two of the team members. He expressed confusion and at times expressed disbelief of what the children and the parents said happened. He did issue a less than 10% refund to...
Read moreNot serious about gymnastics instruction at all! No real instruction given no attention to detail or students needs parking is an absolute nightmare!!! No value for the money instructors are distracted and show favoritism. No follow up calls or email ever sent to track my experience. I was very disappointed with this school. They did not create enough value in their program for what they charge. Instructors favor certain students over others and show more individual attention to one student vs another. I was very unhappy when I personally witnessed another student in my daughters 4 year old class who was physically bullying other students including my own child. I had to bring it to the attention of the instructors as they were very distracted during class and nothing was done not even a talk with the parent of the other child. I would never give this company another...
Read moreHad a kids bday party here. Very professional staff. Host Kierra was very helpful, accommodating, assisted with setting up decorations, available whenever we had questions. Four coaches held structured activities for the kids in the gym, kept it very organized, while parents watched through the glass windows. Coaches got kids together to take a group pic of the kids. General public is not there during your party. Parents had to sign a waiver online or on the IPAD. Host ordered Durbins pizza for the party room. Purchased a case of water and juice from UGA. Brought our own cake, decorations, and pinata. Music is already playing inside the gym. Party time is a 2 hour duration until the next party comes in and your time is up. Kids had fun and parents were very impressed. Kids just wished they could play in...
