This gym is serviceable, but only just. If you want machines to work out on, this has them. It's not the cleanest or fanciest gym, but it's functional. They're currently in the (very slow) process of sprucing it up a bit with a new room, so they're trying to make some amount of progress. The price isn't cheap, but it is affordable.
The staff is okay. You'd think that, at a place of business, they'd want to keep at least one employee at the front desk at all times, but this does not appear to be the case. Sometimes the staff will leave the front desk empty for a good five or ten minutes, and I've seen people walk in just waiting there awkwardly for somebody to show up—and they rarely do. Honestly, if you want to use this gym for free, just scope out when the staff walks way from the front desk—which won't take long—and walk right on in.
The staff also tends to not feel the friendliest. Maybe it's just me, but when I go up to ask them something, it often feels like I'm disrupting whatever it is they're doing—usually chatting with each other—and they're annoyed to have to deal with me. It feels like they're part of their own clique, which I'm intruding upon. And some of the staff is just straight up rude. Not all of the staff is like this, but it feels this way fairly often.
This place also just feels cheap for how much it costs. I understand that you can't control when the repair man comes by to fix a machine, but I've seen a machine out of order for months at a time. I expect at least a certain level of promptness on these things, which they don't deliver on. The machines themselves also feel a bit old and worse for the wear. I think it's time for them to do an overhaul of their machines.
In one of the new rooms they're slowly renovating into a new workout room, they have a squat rack against the wall. Rather than purchase a mirror to stick to the wall, they've simply taken a door that already has a mirror attached to it, and leaned that door on the wall. I mean, it works, but it just feels lazy. That's basically this gym as a whole. If you want a place to come, do your exercises and weightlifting, and then go, it's serviceable. But that's all you're getting out of it. They have a women's center, which is nice, and a day care for busy parents which is also nice. They have a really nice smoothy bar that I rarely see anybody at; I wish they'd put some of their smoothy resources into better equipment.
In all, this place works. But I think it could be better, and I'm a little disappointed that is isn't...
Read moreI have been going to Brenham Fitness on Market St for over a 15 month paying the monthly fee of approx. $25/month. I want to point out that I have NOT cancelled or froze my account through the covid as well. That's probably about 5 month of fees that I have not asked back because i wanted to support small business like Brenham Fitness.
With that said, I cancelled my membership few weeks ago due to planning on relocating out of state. That did not happen so I wanted to reactivate my account again with Brenham Fitness. To my surprise, the lady at the front desk said that i have to pay the $100 initiation fee AGAIN and pay first and last month AGAIN. I was SHOCKED thats what she said I had to do AGAIN. Also, She knows that I have been going there. Let alone how she spoke to someone who have been going there pretty much every day and supported them even through COVID. She even turned around and started helping other people while I was just standing there for about 5 mins without any warning. the NERVE! She also gave me other package options as well..which doesn't make sense either. Mind you, Brenham gym is tiny and they charge an annual $$$ as much as 24 Hr Fitness! The packages they offer doesn't make sense at all! She was offering a 3 month for approximately $140??? You would think if you agree to a 3 month package renewal, it would be cheaper than $25/month.. do the math... it doesn't make sense. they would charge you $50/month for 3 month advance but for one month, its $25??? Why would anyone pay almost twice as much for a 3 month ( divide it by 3 and almost $50/month)? I wouldn't want to know how much would a 6 month fee would be.. probably $75/month maybe?
I also stopped going to the other location because of such an unfriendly staff every time I went there on Sundays. Its one of those places that if you even you say hi.. or Morning... He gave you a look like "why are you even talking to me?" That kind of look.. Or ignore you. But other gym has better equipment than Market St location.
You would think that they want to retain or gain more members especially right now with Covid and a lot of businesses closing... I don't get it!
STAY AWAY! Go somewhere else even if you have to travel 20 mins outside of Brenham! Thats what Im...
Read moreOverpriced, Outdated, and Poorly Managed. This gym is the only real option in town, and unfortunately, it shows. They charge premium prices for a subpar experience, and the management seems more interested in hidden fees than maintaining the facility. Here’s why I wouldn’t recommend it:
Mysterious "Maintenance Fee”: After three months, they tack on a $21/month "maintenance fee." Given the state of the gym—leaking ceilings, crumbling bathrooms, and outdated equipment—I have no idea where that money is going. Other members have complained about this too.
Surprise Cancellation Fee: When we signed up, we asked about the total cost, and no one mentioned a $50 cancellation fee. Even the employee we spoke to when canceling had no idea it existed and had to call the manager. They refused to waive it, despite their own lack of transparency.
Questionable Cleanliness: They provide used rags for wiping down machines. I’m not sure if that’s a health violation, but it’s definitely gross.
Disgusting Facilities: The bathrooms look straight out of the 1980s—peeling ceilings, a leaky roof with a bucket full of moss in the women’s restroom, and a lovely musty smell to tie it all together. (Photos attached.)
Unprofessional Trainers: On my third day, a male trainer rudely confronted me over where I was doing lunges, talking down to me in front of his client. The front desk agreed it was rude and said the manager would call me. Shockingly, that never happened.
If this place had any competition, they’d be out of business. Until they invest in actual maintenance (not just fees), improve cleanliness, and train their staff better,...
