Alton Place Shoe Repair — Local services in Brookline

I got my boots resoled here. Dropped them off and was quoted a week for the resole. I showed up a week later and when I got there another customer was in the middle of demanding a refund after she had come in three times and each time her order still wasn't done. Unsurprisingly, my order wasn't done either, and he hadn't even started the work on it because he couldn't find a heel for the boots. He asked if he could use a different outer sole and I said sure. He said come back the next day; I came back 2 days later and the work still wasn't done. I came back a third time and the work was extremely sloppy, with glue on the upper, very sloppy trimming of the outer sole, and worst of all, the heel was coming undone on the boot. I would bring the boot back to have these errors corrected but my experience makes me think any further interaction with this shop will only be negative. I don't understand how this shop has other positive reviews. I think it's possible that they can perform minor repairs just fine, but if you need any substantive work done on your shoes like resoling, definitely...

Horrendous place. The man working there seems to be incredibly rude, mean and aggressive. I was inspecting the shoes upon pickup. I didn’t think he did a very good job (in fact, the shoes looked like he did no work at all), and even though I didn’t say anything, I clearly looked disappointed and puzzled. He started saying in a very rude tone that what I want costed twice as much, and I said, well, I had told you what I wanted, you should have charged me whatever the price of that work was. He said, ok do you want me to give you a refund? I said sure. He grabbed the shoes out of my hands and proceeded to sand off whatever he did, damaging my shoes in the process. They were patent leather, so he made a point scrubbing off patches of it, effectively making the shoes way worse than they were before. He looked very pleased with himself, and kept saying that they had been this way when I had brought them in. Thankfully this is just a pair of shoes, but this man is aggressive, rude...

I brought my boots in to be resoled and was pretty unimpressed by the result. First they weren’t ready on the day I agreed to pick them up, and it wasn’t until 2 days later that they were ready. When I arrived at the store I waited for 15 minutes before anyone came out even though they were clearly open. Additionally they resole was done clumsily and there was glue left in the upper which now will not be able to be removed. The glue was not dry and the work seemed rushed. The cobbler promptly disappeared and I waited for about half an hour before I could bring up my concerns. After nearly an hour spent at the shop I decided to cut my losses and leave.
