Physical location is great, equipment and features are fun and effective, especially for $25 bucks a month. But I would highly recommend going literally anywhere else if you are looking for personal training, due to the complete lack of basic decency, respect and morals. With a team that has individuals that will say anything they want to get you to sign up, without any sort of consequences. Along with them not taking any sort of responsibility or willingness to talk about agreements that were said by their team, only stating there is nothing they can do (which they can) or you can do(which you can) due to the contract.
Signed up for personal training session after taking advantage of the offer for a free training session. Came to an agreement with the trainer who sold it to me for 3 months, $180 per month, 2 sessions a week, and my Girlfriend can join any and all of the sessions for free if she wants to. Got down to making an electronic signature for what we just agreed to, with him telling me what each section I was initialing was for as I did not have the contract in front of me. Which is very obvious as a critical and absolutely foolish thing to do and that I am now dealing with the consequences due to me trusting the individual.
Fast forwarding 3 months with a few issues during this time, one of the bigger ones was my Girlfriend being told less than 3 weeks after me signing up for these trainer sessions being told she was NOT allowed to join any of the training sessions. While frustrating, we didnât pursue it as we hardly went to the gym together at the same time due to our different responsibilities for school, work, and personal lives. There was also difficulty in getting two sessions a week due to the sheer amount of people signing up, while they had slots open they had very few options that were not in normal working hours during the week. Along with issues that arose that forced me to cancel, like the extreme cold days where the car wouldnât start. While frustrating, it was still not a deal breaker due to the sessions that I did have being excellent. Last week I went up to the front desk to ask if I still had one more week to get one last good workout session in before it ends, or if the 3-month period was over. Instead I was told that my contract was in fact not over for another 9 MONTHS. I assumed there had to have been some sort of mistake, and asked to speak with a manager about getting this cleared up. Only to be told that day that there is absolutely nothing I could do, and that it doesnât matter what that individual said to sell me the contract. Following up with telling me the individual that sold me the contract no longer works there so there is no way to provide proof of what happened. Finishing up with saying if I really want out of paying for another 9 months that I did not agree to, I would have to pay 50% of the total cost of what those 9 months would have charged me. Then saying he would not deal with this any longer and left me standing there trying to figure out what happened, I assume he had another appointment with a customer which is obviously more important than someone who just walked up and is something I understood.
I returned the next day to continue the conversation with the operations manager in charge of this location. We talked for the next 30 minutes about the subject, but I was told once again there was nothing they could do, as there was no proof of our original agreement. I asked for further numbers regarding corporate or management farther up the chain but was told by him that he handles all the problems for this location. Refusing to give me the information to talk with someone higher up in the management chain, and essentially telling me the trainer team can say whatever they want even blatant and completely fake verbal agreements to get you to buy/sign the contract. Ended up canceling the gym memberships and planning to challenge any charges...
Read moreI received a 3 day guest pass from my sister, so she took me with her to workout. Since I was a guest, they did the typical thing where I had to talk to a representative so the club could get my information and apparently harass me for the rest of my life (but more on that in a bit).
The first thing that rubbed me the wrong way was how rude the rep was. I have a really simple/easy phone number; so when he asked for it and I told him what it was, he paused, looked up at me, and said something along the lines of, "We're going to need your REAL phone number...." I assured him it was indeed my number. The real kicker here though was that he CALLED my number minutes later, and I can only assume it was to see if it was real or not. I mean seriously, are you freaking kidding me? I SHOULD HAVE given him a fake though, because I can't stop getting calls from the club.
My main beef though was when I was helping my sister train by teaching her some new exercises. Apparently there's been this personal trainer there trying to get my sister to hire her as a trainer, and said trainer did NOT like that I was helping my sister. She came over to us and said, "What's going on here?" Now I know clubs don't allow outside personal trainers come in and train people, but even after we told her that I was just her brother, she STILL treated me like I was a problem. Then for the rest of the night she was giving us the stink eye. Reminded me of a wolf stalking its prey. The trainer even flagged my sister down at the end to be reassured she was still going to get her business. Seriously...get lost.
After this ordeal, I decided to forgo the last 2 days of my free pass to workout at Lifetime. Even though LA Fitness is WALKING distance from my home, I preferred to drive 10 minutes out of my way to go to a place that doesn't have incredibly rude and obnoxious people as employees. I've been to MANY different clubs of various franchises over the years, and I've never been...
Read moreExtremely crowded most weekday evenings, especially since they closed the Roseville and Northtown Mall locations.
The men's restroom and locker room are not well maintained, specially on Saturdays and Sundays when it appears that a tornado plows through it on a regular schedule, flinging toilet paper and poop with equal abandon. I'm not joking. Those days, the paper towel dispensers and most of the toilet paper dispensers are completely empty. ALWAYS check the toilet paper dispenser and the cleanliness of the toilet seat in a stall before sitting down!
Usually a few pieces of cable exercise equipment are down for repairs, but this is a good thing because it's evidence they are proactive about repairing them - unless it means they broke on someone during their routine. It's never happened to me - yet!
Want to use the pool Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evening? Adult pool aerobics classes are scheduled all three of those nights, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. (as of 12/2024 anyway) so plan accordingly. They clean the pool and the whirlpool on Tuesday morning so the pool doesn't open until 10 a.m. that day of the week; they used to clean them on Fridays too, but I think they aren't doing that anymore.
There's open basket ball; a racquet ball league; volleyball in the winter; spin classes; various dance aerobics classes; and personal training available.
Be extremely careful walking in the parking lot, people drive like idiots and apartment renters from across the street use the L.A. Fitness lot as their personal parking lot along the northwest...
