Ivy Spa Massage — Local services in Carlsbad

UPDATE: I am updating and adding stars solely based on the spa's customer service. They called me and offered for me to come back so they could do some kind of therapy for my pain but I live two hours away and had already left town so that was not an option for me. They also offered to refund me, which I declined because I felt guilty accepting it. It was partially my fault for not speaking up during the massage. I appreciate their efforts to fix the issue.

However, this could have been avoided if the spa had better communication with me beforehand and I hope they make improvements going forward. If you still decide to go here, I would suggest talking with your masseuse before the massage starts and explaining your preferences, and maybe you will have a better experience than me.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I came here for a couples massage because the reviews looked decent and the price wasn’t bad. We arrived about 15 minutes early but it was a while before anyone came to the front to check us in. They were nice though and I understand it can get busy so that didn’t affect my experience so much.

They told us to undress and get under the blankets, and the massage therapists came right in and started without asking us any questions about where our pain is, areas to avoid, and didn’t even give us their names. The massage itself was probably the worst I’ve gotten, she just kept pressing up and down my body without really focusing anywhere. She also put hard pressure directly on my spine (which should NEVER be done) and I was in severe pain last night from it. My spine still hurts the next day. I am honestly wondering if they were even licensed because no real masseuse would ever massage directly on the spine.

I still paid and tipped but I’m in severe pain now and would not recommend this...

I went to Ivy Spa early last year after straining my shoulder and pulling some muscles in my legs from softball. I also had some extreme tightness in my feet and legs from marathon training and soreness in my shoulder and back. It was the closest place near my work's office, so I scheduled a 1-hour session in advance.

The therapist was very professional and skilled, and we spoke very little. I actually wish I had gotten the ninety minute massage afterwards.

The massage hurt only when the therapist massaged the tightness in my legs, but it was well worth it. I felt a lot better about a day or 2 afterwards like with other massages.

I wish I could remember the therapist's name, because I would go back. They didn't leave their name in the booking or take mine. That would be my only complaint. I went to check the location and realized that I never left my review from...

I went yesterday evening to get a message thinking it was 65 dollars and the lady surprised me at the end of the message saying it was 75 dollars. She did a great job on me. However wish she'd been a little more honest about the price. I tipped her very well. I think she was afraid I would not tip her. Oh well honesty is the best policy. This is not my 1st choice where I go to get a massage. I use this place as my 2nd choice. I have a place where I normally go but they were completely busy. In the end honesty is the best policy. This is why they got 4 stars...
