This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever had.||I will start with the couple of things that were good. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The amenities on the property and in the room are a nice little touch (included breakfast, coffee, yoga mat/beach tote/toys/chairs/boogie boards, etc.)||Now for the bad, which was a lot. We stayed in a courtyard room. The courtyard room we stayed in was AWFUL. Sunlight doesn’t hit the lower level courtyard rooms, so our room was so dark all day long. There was zero cell service in the room. The room had a very strong musty smell that did not dissipate, even after opening a window. There was a thick layer of dust on the phone. It made me wonder when the room was last used or cleaned. The A/C unit was so loud that it was startling every time it came on, especially at night. The absolute worst part of our room though, was that it was RIGHT BELOW THE LOBBY. Who on earth puts a guest room DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH the lobby???? I have never heard of such a thing. All day and night long it was the sound of people walking back and forth, doors opening and slamming shut, and what sounded like bowling balls being dropped on the floor (?). It was impossible to sleep. I had to go out and buy earplugs for the second night. I called the front desk after the first sleepless night and they said they were fully booked so they couldn’t move our room, but that they would ask the night person to be quieter on the second night. Not only was the night person not quieter on the 2nd night, they were 10x louder. The walls to our room were paper thin. We could hear every single sound coming from our neighbors’ rooms - toilets flushing, talking, doors opening and closing, and at 11pm on the 2nd night, some very adult sounds coming from the room next to us, which is not what anyone wants to listen to when they are on vacation with their small child. ||I can’t vouch for the oceanfront rooms because I didn’t see them. Maybe they are nicer? But the courtyard room was awful. You can 100% tell that it was a motel that they slapped some paint and put hardwood flooring in, and now charge luxury prices. I paid almost $1,000 for two nights. It should not have cost more than $200/night, and that is being generous. The photos on the website are very misleading. Pretty lighting and nice photoshopping. The reality is very different. You are definitely just paying for the location. I would highly recommend staying at the Four Seasons, Omni or Cape Rey. You will pretty much pay the same price but will actually get a luxury experience. This was absolutely not that. I was honestly shocked when we first arrived considering the prices they are charging. Also, this property is not at all ADA accessible. This wasn’t an issue for us, but a huge warning for others. There is no elevator and a lot of narrow steps. The “on-site” parking lot was not actually on-site. It is across the street, and they charge $30/night to park there.||To be honest, I feel pretty taken advantage of that I spent so much of my hard earned money (especially in this economy) on such a bad experience. I am exhausted after the sleepless nights, and feel like I need a vacation from my vacation. There are other lovely establishments in Carlsbad that are worth your money....
Read moreBeach Terrace is right on the beach especially if you get one of the oceanfront rooms they offer. They are quite expensive but as far as hearing the ocean all night and feeling almost like you were in a boat when the tide comes in, it may be worth it. There are some areas of improvement that could help justify the high price that they charge. We arrived early, and although we were able to park our car at a fee, we were not allowed to use the facilities until we officially checked in. This meant we were not even allowed to sit on a chair by the pool or as far as I know be offered a chair by the beach. That was disappointing as I’ve never experienced that even with a less pricey hotel. The check-in process was very disappointing. We were given a text when our room was ready to come back to the front desk and the lady there was helping somebody else, and asked me to stand to the side for about 10 minutes. While I was waiting, her person had left and someone else walked up to her and said I received a text for check-in, and she started helping him before me which I thought was rude. Someone else came out and checked me in, but we were never told all of the details, such as some of the nice things they offer, which were music, yoga, and things like the hours of the breakfast. One morning we went down for the continental breakfast, thinking they served until 10 AM on a weekend only to find out it ended at 9:30. They said you missed it. Not offering anything that they could do or maybe there was some left over they could get for us to go. I actually had to ask is there anything left over and then they went and got us something. They are not going out of their way unless you specifically ask. One evening we decided to stay in and watch a movie and their streaming on their TV was not working. Their handyman had just left I was told and they didn’t know how to help us. Again I inquired can they be reached via text or phone? And only then did they try to get me an answer, which unfortunately was unsuccessful in getting it to work. There is nobody at the pool, and there were loud kids doing cannon balls into the pool with nobody at the resort monitoring how loud or if that was an inconvenience to any of their adult guests. They do provide chairs and umbrellas at the beach, however, they are old and rusted and are hard to adjust whereas at this price point lounge chairs with nice cushions would be far more appropriate. I would still probably come back to this hotel, just based on how amazing that oceanfront view is, however, it’s a high price to pay considering some of the other areas where they...
Read moreWas excited to see how spacious the room was and the view was great. My problem with my stay here is that there is absolutely no customer service even though there are cards and information booklets in the room telling you about their complimentary services to make your stay more comfortable.
The card left on the pillow says we care about your relaxation all the way down to the pillow, and lists 5 different types of pillows that you can request. When I called the front desk, I almost hung up because he took so long to answer. When he did answer, he initially had no idea what I was talking about. I repeated my request and he said I think we are all out but I'll go check and call you back. I never got a call back.
The booklet claims they have 24 hour guest services and that "your comfort is of utmost importance to us. As a result, complimentary amenities including razors, shaving cream, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and mouthwash are available from the Front Desk 24 Hours a day". Turns out I left my dental floss at home, asked my husband to go down and ask if they had any dental floss, which didn't seem like an unreasonable request given the amenities they list, the door was locked and no one appeared to be there. My husband came back up to call to see if anyone would answer and was told that they didn't have any.
Beach Terrace Inn: Please update the information you provide your guests. I would not have wasted my time asking if I had not read about these services on the materials that were provided.
Honestly, I would not stay here again. For the money, I can definitely receive better customer service elsewhere. Trying to dress up your property as a luxury resort while providing zero customer service is just a lie. If you take away the fact this property is beach front, the property itself does not even compete with a Courtyard Marriott. At least Marriott provides excellent...
