Himalayan Sherpa Cuisine — Restaurant in Carlsbad

STAY AWAY CARLSBAD. RACIST STAFF AND SCAMMERS. This is for the Himalayan restaurant. I used to go to you guys all the time in person and online orders. But I’m fed up with your restaurant for two major reasons. They run a very stupid and cheap scam with their rice portions to save cents on the dollar as rice is the cheapest thing they serve. If you come with any more than one person instead of serving each dish with an individual side of rice. They serve it in a large communal bowl but the bowl is actually very shallow and offers less rice than two individual sides would. It’s significantly less than what would be served to two individuals that ordered. And when you request more rice they charge you extra for it even tho they say they will bring more if we need. And when you order more it comes in a smaller bowl than they normally serve their individual sides it’s a bowl that is barely the size of a tennis ball. When the owner reads this know that this scam is cheap and such a bad look for your restaurant and yes we noticed you’re not just gonna get away with it without people knowing. Secondly they take their sweet time serving food which is normal there and they rarely fill water or check on the table after serving food. Which is normal for them to be fair. But when I took my family from out of town there with my mother who is visibly Muslim and wearing a headscarf, they treated us like garbage, didn’t greet us for a while upon entry even tho there was literally only one other group of two in the entire place and took close to 45min to bring out the food. When they brought out the food the waitress had a terrible attitude and the food was insanely spicey. There are spice levels which I am familiar with as I’ve eaten there more times than I can count. I ordered lower spice levels for the table but received the hottest dishes I ever had form this restaurant. We had two small children with us who couldn’t even eat and got overwhelmed with the spice. IF I HADNT BEEN A REGULAR ID BLAME MYSLEF FOR NOT ORDERING LOWER SPICE BUT BECAUSE I AM A REGULAR I KNOW THEY HAD MALICIOUS INTENT TOWARD ME AND MY FAMILY. After complaining about the spice and how it’s bad for the kids they said sorry that’s what you ordered deal with it and then ignored my requests for water repeatedly. Even though like I said only two groups of people in the shop. And as I kept calling and waving for water every few minutes the waitress made a show of going to the other table and asking them how everything was and refilled their glasses with water with a devious smile and a side eye at our table. SHE WAS 100% RACIST AND I WILL NEVER EVER GIVE THEM ANOTHER CENT. IVE BROUGHT TENS OF FRIENDS THERE OVER THE PAST YEAR OR SO AND WILL TELL ALL OF THEM TO ADD THIS SPOT TO THE BOYCOTT LIST. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED I REALLY LOVED YOUR PLACE BUT NOW I SEE HOW YOU TREAT PEOPLE BASED ON YOUR ON PERSONAL PREJUDICES. This was the most embarrassing and disgusting display of racism my family and I have had to endure in years....

We were visiting Carlsbad for the weekend and were trying to find a good breakfast place before we started our busy day. We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who I believe was the owner. We have a six year old and a toddler and this gentleman said their food would be free! What places give you free food just because anymore? That started our great experience with Al´s Cafe. I ordered the bacon, tomato and avocado omelette with a side pancake. It was exactly what I expected and kept me full for a while. Very good taste and not salty at all as some other places tend to do to give their food some "flavor."

My wife had the Al´s locally famous hash and she really liked it. My mom ordered the veggie special omelette with egg whites. She also said it had a great taste. The kids got the kids pancakes (I think they were called Mickey Mouse pancakes) with eggs.

Overall the food portions were normal and both omelettes we ordered had a lot of ingredients inside. I´ve noticed that most breakfast places put the bare minimum in their omelettes and Al´s Cafe is the exception. I would definitely come back next time we are in Carlsbad and recommend this place...

This place was great 7 years ago. Although remodeled, the place has awful food. The food is just plain. No taste. Nothing. The server was somewhat friendly. She told me the special and emphasized the prices of the specials. She really seemed like she didn't want to be there but was trying. But when I requested for my avocados to be placed outside the omelette, she proceeded by telling the cook loudly "she wants eggs with the avocados on top for some reason!" She sounded frustrated but I was super kind, understanding and nice to her. My order came wrong and no problem I just asked for the missing spinach to be on a separate plate because I already had started eating my food. The orange juice is the orange juice from hell. Bitter, foamy, highly priced just awful. The only good thing there was the toast and butter. It was $25 for a terrible breakfast.

I will not be returning. I will stick with Mimi's cafe. 9.99 for a nice huge warm muffin, 2 eggs, bacon and potatoes. Friendly and warm environment. Private booths. Amazing service and most importantly delicious food!

Goodbye Al's cafe. Never again will I go...
