Charleston Beer Works have a few good things going for them. It was a recommendation from our server the night before when we dined at the Charleston Crab House. Our server worked both at the Beer Works and Crab House.
The layout seems to support their targeted crowd, the college crowd.
Nice atmosphere. A bit upscale for a sports bar.
Attractive wait staff. All friendly and seemingly happy to serve, or at least trained to do so.
The beer selection was great.
Food: Food was arranged beautifully on the plate. We ordered the chicken and waffles, cheese spatzle, and the Gobalt sandwich with sweet potato fries.
I was impressed by the amount of fries we got. It spilled off the plate. Just how I like it. It was sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Yum-O! Just the way I like!
Gobalt sandwich: The Gobalt was good yet, I felt like it lacked a bit of flavor. Maybe because the bread to meat ratio wasn't balanced. There was two thick slices of rustic sourdough bread soaked in butter or maybe just oil, then grilled. A small slab of avocado spread, small spread of goat cheese, lettuce, then tomato. Then, only 2-3 thin slices of bacon. The bacon flavor got lost in all that bread. The spreads were so thin and had such a mild flavor, it didn't taste like anything. Underwhelming, but it 'sounded' so good! And honestly it looks amazing in the photo. The taste was just like bread and spread. Eh. Just O-K.
The chicken and waffles: Served as a sandwich, the chicken and waffles were pretty good. The chicken was flavored well. Spicy. There was some spicy maple poured over the top too. On the inner layer of the waffles, there seemed to be a spread of a pineapple-like jam. I personally think it still needed butter. I know, I know! It's already a bajillion calories, but what's a few hundred more if it enhanced the flavor? I was a bit let down by the fruit it was served with. Diced too long ago, as the juice in the melons have seeped out and all that was left was the fibers of the fruit. No juice.
Cheese spatzle: This was awesome. Loved the texture and flavor. The right amount of cheesy. But seriously, it's a glorified mac n cheese. In a good way!
Service: Service from the bartender was pretty good. He wasn't overly attentive or talkative, but a strong work ethic.
Side note: The TVs could be a bit bigger, especially if you're watching a game from a table across the room and you're not sitting right by...
Read moreCharleston Beer Works was such a great venue to have for our annual social for MUSC students! The atmosphere was inviting, the food was top-notch beer fare, and the addition of billiard tables/basketball arcade games made the experience we had there amazing! Dave Seitz was extremely friendly to our students and helped us run the evening smoothly. The staff were very hospitable and the Happy Hour made our event that much better. The food came out within ten minutes of ordering--so relatively quickly and wasn't just for our group event but for other patrons as well. I believe they weren't as full-staffed in the last few weeks but as of last week they are fully staffed and ready to go! When people talk about their experiences at Charleston bars, they always remark about the owners not being too friendly to students. This was not the case here. TVs had something for everyone to watch (even if you aren't a sports lover) and the music was good mix of classic rock jams and recent hits. I will be highly recommending this place to everyone for their events or to even knock back a few brews during well-deserved study breaks.
From what people were saying: -The wings were amazing! The price matched the quality and quantity. The hot flavor really was hot! -Arizona rolls were a big hit along with the tater skins. The mozzarella sticks were also a crowd pleaser. Pretty much every food item we ordered was consumed within minutes. -Loaded chili-cheese fries were great! The chili was spicier than I anticipated, but the infusion of what tasted like Tabasco sauce into the mix was outstanding. -Lots of space, patrons were very friendly, drink specials were a plus! -Highly recommend: the Washout tea and their mixed drinks.
Thanks again for hosting us,...
Read moreMy girlfriend is from Boston. Her son came down a few months ago to visit us. She brought him to this place. They have a few places in MASS similar to this one.. So today we decided to come to watch her pats play bears and my titans play texans.. Server seemed a little annoyed...judgmental..etc.. I notice this type of stuff being that im a server/ bartender. Plus ive been in the management part as well. I actually watched her check on other patrons and we were rite behind and next to them...but never checked back with us after she gave me my shot of fireball.. It was actually 37minutes.. I stopped another employee and asked if she could get our check . We wanted more food an hour ago ...but...SHE NEVER ASKED!!!! I turned around and watched her talk to co workers and play with her hair for minutes at a time.. I felt like i was being judged.. She came with the bill but never asked if everything was ok.. She came back within one minute to make sure the money was there..!! Atmosphere was very much what we liked for sports...but she made my experience...
