Shine Salon — Local services in Charlotte

READ BELOW FOR DETAILS AND PICS I was referred to this salon and the stylist, Hustin, through a friend. I moved to Charlotte recently and I needed a new stylist STAT. I showed for my appointment with a photo of Drew Barrymore as inspiration for a russet red/light auburn color and corresponding cut. The appointment ended at night and when I asked for a picture from the back, Hustin told me that the lighting was bad, and the salon had already closed so we needed to get going anyway. Odd response and strange to not even get a pic after all that processing, but I did not think much of it at the time. In the dark, it looked different than expected but the styling made it acceptable enough for me to pay $280 up front with a $40 tip. It wasn’t until the sun rose the next day that I truly saw the atrocity on my head. I woke up with violet purple roots, orange dip dyed ends and layers so chunky that people in my morning class asked, “WTF happened to your hair?” I texted Hustin pictures, dismayed, but still positive. I even apologized for bothering him. Surely, this was just a huge mistake. He responded saying that the orange color was his “vision” and that all balayage looks like that if it’s not curled (note: balayage is a technique, not a style). He even said “Yeah I don’t like that” in reference to one of the pics I sent.

Not a single apology was offered to me from him.

I went to Shine Salon directly the next day. The front desk/ other stylists there were extremely apologetic, warm and understanding. Chuck offered a free color correction treatment and Olaplex in order to save my hair. The simply bad work was obvious and I did receive a refund for the original service. Chuck was very sweet about everything and I would have trusted her to fix it if I wasn’t so scarred from the experience.

I ended up having to drive 6 hours round trip to my old stylist to fix my hair. This resulted in me needing to chop 5 inches off to even my layers and I will still need another appointment to get the color exactly where I want it again.

All in all, Shine Salon is extremely professional, and I believe that there must be some quality talent there. But Hustin?! We...

I recently got a service from Shine Salon by Jenna for Perm and they charged $600. I am writing to express my concerns regarding the hair perm treatment I received at Shine Salon recently. I visited your salon for a hair perm, and unfortunately, I am not satisfied with the results.

Before the treatment, my hair was frizzy and dry, but I had curls. I do appreciate she deranged my hair but I paid for that service also. Nothing came for free. However, after the perm, my hair is only straight and dry, and I did not achieve the curls I was expecting. I paid $600 for the service, and it is disheartening to see that the money spent did not result in the desired outcome.

During the process, Jenna performed the service, and I feel it's important to mention that she could have informed me that I might not get curls. Despite expressing my desire for curls, I was not given the necessary information about the potential outcome, and Jenna proceeded with the perm. Following her instructions, I washed my hair after three days, but unfortunately, I still don't see any curls.

I believe communication is crucial in such situations, and I would appreciate it if you could address this matter promptly. I am disappointed with the results, and I hope we can find a resolution to ensure customer satisfaction.

I definitely recommend to avoid this Salon. I have been waiting for them to solve this problem and it’s been 4 days I have been following up but I have not received any response. I only have one option left to handle this situation to go to...

My bridal party had hair and makeup done at Shine the morning of my wedding. The team at Shine was absolutely wonderful to work with. They let the 9 of us take over the downstairs space with room to set up lunch and mimosas plus plenty of room for us to steam dresses and hang out. It was such a pleasant experience and so much easier than trying to set up hair and makeup in a hotel room or something. On top of that, the hair and makeup professionals were incredible and everyone looked beautiful! Hair and makeup was natural and comfortable AND stayed put through my entire outdoor June wedding. I wanted to look “like myself” on my wedding day, not overly made up for the camera, and Nina (makeup) and Sarah G (hair) were so patient and attentive in my trial, helping me figure out that balance. I couldn’t have been happier with how I looked and I think my bridesmaids were happy too! All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I would recommend them to any bride. Huge thanks to Nina who not only did makeup but helped me plan the schedule and book the space. Also Michelle (makeup), and Sarah G, Morgan, Blen (hair).

I’ve also been going to Shine for 3 years as a regular customer and they are perfect for the everyday too! Jana is incredibly talented and always makes me look great. I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair as I have in the last 3 years.
