Going from shopping at Food City to shopping here has cut down on my grocery bill by like a third. The place is bare bones (it feels like you're walking into a mini Costco or Sam's club), but impeccably organized. They have very few on-brand items, but their off-brand items are usually very well made and a good substitute. If you're picky about only getting on-brand items, this place is not for you. That said, they do have some international finds - tastes and flavors from other countries. I believe some of their items are seasonal, like the German imports they've had recently. They also have imported cheeses and meats in the back. They sell their open box fruits and vegetables ripe, so make sure to use them within, say, a week of purchase. The vegetables you can get from the fridge (mostly salad mixes) have tended to last me about 2-3 weeks, and are freshly washed, so I don't have to worry about washing them, I just serve them. The frozen section may seem small if you're used to a regular store with 4 aisles of frozen food, but it's got all the basics: frozen fruits and vegetables, pizza, chicken nuggets, ice cream, fish, whole frozen turkeys and more. The only thing I haven't been able to find there is my beloved Hoisin sauce for Asian dishes, though they have Soy and Teriyaki. Aldi will cover your bases, though, and do it phenomenally well. They even just added an alcohol section. Not sure how the selection is. Also, make sure to have a quarter when you go. The carts are "coin operated", but your quarter gets returned when you bring your cart back. I just keep a spare quarter in my car so I always have one when I go. Some people who have just finished shopping will be willing to trade you their cart (with their quarter in it) for your quarter, just so they don't have to take it all the way to the door - I do that sometimes, too. It's kind of like an honor system that's been reinforced with 25¢. Also, bring your own bags. They have reusable bags for sale, and I've been using my bags for 3 years now. They're durable, but not exactly cheap at $5 a piece. They do have plastic bags, but those are 10¢ a piece, and paper bags, which I believe are 5¢. Aldi is a very environmentally-responsible company, and they've just gone non-gmo. Nonetheless, if you want to save on having to pay an extra $1-5 for bags, I'd say get a reusable one. They have boxes available sometimes, but don't depend on that. Overall, I totally recommend Aldi for anyone who needs a bit of extra money in their life, especially if you have respect for the environment and/or wish to have a safe, cheap place to go to get...
Read moreWe go to this store for select items. Aldi is a German Based Grocery Store Chain, the 7th largest in The World when I last checked. I go here for G-Free Items, Organic Items, common items (which are so much less expensive at this grocer)...and during Autumn, Thanksgiving and Christmas, the store goes out of it's way to carry "Fall" and Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Specialties. Sometimes I can find my daughters' Pantene Items here, along with other toiletries, needed by any common American household. Aldi used to carry only Aldi based products, but they are carrying more main-line (recognizable) brands. There are some items I won't buy here. My family will not eat certain products from this store. Thus, uneaten food is a waste! So buy only what you would normally shop for and you can probably save quit a bit of money (which is kind of my thing). The store has been expanded and updated. It is one of the larger Aldi Stores in the area. The cashiers are So Super Friendly. I like the idea of bringing my own bags or cheaply buying recyclable bags at the store. Bring a quarter for the cart you will be using! If you forget, the cashiers will loan you one! How nice to go to a grocery store where there are no shopping carts "hanging loose" in the parking lot. The Hixson Aldi is particularly popular, so I suggest going early in the morning on any given day...especially Friday and Saturday. Hixson could actually sustain a second Aldi along Hixson Pike...not just 153. I hope another store will be added. Why pay more for food and household items than necessary. Brand names and food trends will come and go. Who cares about fancy advertising and being led into the belief one food item is better than another, simply because you purchased it at an over-priced grocer??? My husband has worked in the food and beverage industry for years, and he can tell you, most items come off the very same product line...they are just directed toward different packaging lines for different companies!!! The Aldi Employees are very quick to restock empty shelves...so if you see stocking carts hanging around, it is because items are sold so quickly, the facility is in a constant state of re-stocking. I have found The Hixson Aldi Store to be the friendliest in the Chattanooga Area. Of course, I have not shopped all the Aldi Grocery Stores which are popping up in The...
Read moreIt doesn’t even deserve star. I’ve always liked coming to Aldi‘s because of great Prices. But today I learned the only way Aldi’s is a good experience is if you shop for your own stuff and go to self check out and don’t have to deal with staff. I decided to do curbside pick up because I work quite a lot this week and decided it would be the quickest way. They only had one timeslot open after I got off work so I chose it. I ordered my stuff yesterday to pick up today and two hours before I was supposed to pick up. They told me they were running behind. They still said my timeslot was 6 to 7 though. So after work, I showed up and sat there for 30 minutes after that much time had passed. I decided to ask an employee about my order since it was only 10 minutes till my timeslot was up. And it was still showing preparing and wouldn’t let me sign in as there she informed me that they would get it out to me. I went back to my car and a couple minutes later she comes to my window and tells me that it hasn’t been picked. And it’ll take a minute I asked her if I could pick it myself she said no. Then five minutes after that, another man came out to my car and told me that they are done picking for the night and that I was the third order in line and he couldn’t jump ahead and that I could either cancel it or Wait till another day. I’m sorry, but terrible customer service Especially for the fact that they never even called to tell me that my order was never Gonna be ready and an hour before the store closes they tell me they’re done picking orders, even though I’m sitting there waiting to get my...
