Markman's — Local services in Chattanooga

I’ll give them 10 stars if I !! First off, I didn’t grow up in this town, and so I didn’t know where to go when my husband wanted to buy me an anniversary band. Aside from my wedding rings and a few nice pieces of jewelry, I don’t really need a lot of jewelry, and I don’t like chain jewelers as a rule. Because I worked in sales for a high-end jeweler during my college years, I know enough about fine jewelry to make me dangerous. We decided to go to Markman’s after reading all the great reviews. We now see why!! When we walked in at 6:05 on a Saturday night, I felt bad when I realized they closed at 7, (I kind of thought they might be open till eight because the mall was nearby.) But we immediately felt welcome. Everyone was friendly and smiling & welcomed us in. My initial impression was favorable, it is a lovely store and they had a very impressive jewelry selection, displayed beautifully (which I think immediately made my husband nervous because we have a daughter in college and we weren’t looking to break our bank account over this anniversary band! 😆.) It had been many years since we looked for a nice piece of jewelry, so we didn’t even know what to expect in today’s economy. We had been to some big box stores at the mall and I was underwhelmed by the quality, price & especially by the lack of competent customer service. (I tend to be a customer service snob & I expect good service because of my many years of retail training through high school, college & beyond.) We were discouraged after having visited three other jewelers and I had just told my husband “I don’t really need an anniversary band right now, let’s wait till the economy turns around someday, and let me do a little bit more research on the REAL jewelers in this area,” (because this was kind of an impulse for us.) He said let’s just try this last jeweler tonight. And I’m so very glad we did! Sales manager, Jerry Funk was just finishing up W/ another customer so he acknowledged us right away & told us to feel free to look around and he would be with us in a few moments. (That’s something that is severely missing in many sales settings today … just a simple acknowledgment when you walk in the door & being made to feel welcome, goes a long way.) Jerry then joined us & asked us what we were looking for. He pulled out various rings and let me show him the styles I liked & listened to what I was looking for (and the most important thing is how he listened! ) He wasn’t at all pushy and he really made especially my husband feel comfortable. My husband is a metallurgical engineer, so Jerry took time to explain what to do to fix the prongs on my wedding set and which metal would be better and why. He let me make all decisions without pushing, but the cherry on the top was when, after he saw that I really liked one ring but I didn’t want to get it because I felt it was a little over our budget right now, he asked me if I would mind a ring that was a couple years older and maybe a tad smaller in diamond weight, but the same style? He then pulled out a beautiful ring that he explained had been in the case for five years so it was a little less expensive. (He definitely had my Husband’s attention!) It was a beautiful Anniversary band and I was most impressed by the fact that they didn’t bring that ring’s price up to today’s gold standard, but rather left it in there at the 2019 Pricing. I’m surprised it was still in there!! But this showed me real integrity on Mr. Markman’s part and we were SOLD! I now have a beautiful anniversary band that my husband promised me he would give me after 20 years of marriage but more importantly we now have an established relationship with Mr. Funk and we will continue to shop with him at Markman’s Jewelers! I highly recommend this beautiful store for all your jewelry needs, especially if, like me, you don’t want to just get stuck shopping in the big box mall, jewelers where most people are just ticking away the hours till they can go home. My boyfriend and I were engagement ring shopping. Markman’s was our very first stop because we had previously heard nothing but great things about them. Upon walking in, we were greeted very warmly from all of the staff. Scott, the manager, and Jerry, a certified diamontologist, helped us. They showed us countless ring, and made us feel like we were their top priority. They had so many beautiful stones/rings to choose from. However, they presented one that I absolutely just fell in love with! From there, it was about finding the right stone to put in it. The staff was completely patient and attentive throughout the whole process. After visiting other competing jewelers to see what we preferred, there was no question about it: We were going back to Markmans! Their professionalism, attentiveness, and overall knowledge for the product could not be matched. We did not want to give anybody else our business besides Markman’s. They truly are the best of the best and I recommend them over anyone else! I would have given them 10 stars if I could! I do not have one negative thing to say about them. Towards the end when we were picking out stones, even Mr. Markman himself came out and was talking to us about the product and making sure we were aware of what to expect with a diamond. They were very busy, but made sure we felt like we were the only people there and that our business was most important. That is a hard thing to find in companies these days! After using "Major chain" jewelers for the last 10+ years, a poor repair job sent me to Markman's for a second try. My first experience was disappointing, as tawhe clerk did not appear to like my appearance. I'm so glad I went back! Scott and his staff have been exceedingly gracious each visit. Their jewelers have performed amazing matches to lost stones of all shapes and colors at reasonable pricing. Yes they may appear a little more expensive, but the quality of their jewelry is amazing! Will always shop Markman's first and look forward to your next designer show! Looked everywhere for that special piece, as my loving wife prefers exclusive pieces of jewelry, and Scott, D and Alan came through again! A beautiful Vahan fob, that I wanted an accent diamond in the middle to make unique. Scott found a beautiful cushion canary diamond that Alan did a phenomenal job in setting! She's smiling again! New update. Took my wife's watch, Lion face encrusted crystals given to her by her sister for Christmas, in for a new battery. Broke the crystal, which I noticed when they returned the watch to me! New Jeweler, informed me that not only was the crystal face broken, the backing was not properly set! After two years, no one has reached out to my wife or I to apologize and ask to earn our business back. Not after we spent $$$$$$ on new Jewlery and custom redesigns? Oh well....shop...
