They have a lot of decor for the holidays. But the prices of the "Ashland" pre-made wreaths, including the items to create your own is VERY expensive, even with the constant 40% off sale signs over them. In this economy. $129.99 for a 10" decorated wreath, that doesn't even light up, is way too expensive. Perhaps the wreaths will go on a 75% off clearance before Halloween. Then most of us can afford one. I should also mention that most of the decor items is for inside of the home (excluding the scarecrows, grave stones, etc). I've stopped receiving their text notifications because they are always about decor on sale. Even on sale they are too expensive.
Too much store space is spent on decor while the shelves that should carry the supplies of the most popular crafts trending now are empty. At the moment, Resin Art, Acrylic Pours and Card Making are very popular and I am doing them myself. Bottles of acrylic paints larger than 2oz are not available. Bottles of resin & hardeners, any type of resin colorants and the moulds for them are non-existent. In card making, they have a few very expensive Tim Holtz die sets and a few by an unknown company. They have lots of lovely cardstock, but unless you want to shell out a few hundred dollars for an electronic die cutting machine, you won't find any of the popular manual machines here.
It's a shame. I used to depend on Michaels for supplies, but now I either drive further away to another craft store or join the Amazon Army.
I hope Michaels will remember that most of their customer base are all about crafting and not decorating, before they join the line of stores that are going out...
Read moreI came in at a slow time in late afternoon looking for something specific. I immediately saw 2 co-workers talking with one another, and thought ah, I'll ask them. When i approached, neither acknowledged me. I gave them a minute longer to see I was waiting to ask them for help, but no, that moment never came. I decided to say excuse me could one of you point me in the right direction? Both seemed insulted that I would interrupt their conversation. One, simply said, I don't think we have that, but if we do its that way (she swifts her hand to sway it in a general direction). Wow, ok. I accepted the answer and went on my way looking for what I was looking for. In the area that they swayed me to, I could not find anything but I decided to go through the entire store where I then found multiple items in various sizes of what I was looking for! And it was nowhere near where they had originally sent me. None of this would have been a big deal to me typically however I think customer service ought to be a little better in the store. I'm sure Michaels management wood shutter to think that a customer had an experience like this. The store was not fully stocked with much but In fairness it was after the Christmas season and therefore maybe they were just turning over the store four more relevant items to be stocked. My experience won't keep me from going into a Michaels because typically they have things I need but let's hope their customer service...
Read moreWent into Michaels recently for the first time in a couple of years. I could not find anything I was looking for. Everything I needed or wanted was out of stock. I was the most suprised at the silk flower area. Almost an entire row of nothing but empty containers with a few left out of several dozens, candle wicks they only had super long wicks for the entire candle department. I did love the fact that you could see one employee roaming around helping customer's. The store was very clean with the exception of the bathroom. Now the Women's bathroom- one word...DISGUSTING. The first stall had pee all over it. The second stall, oh my - had a huge CURLY Hair ball the size of a baseball of someone's hair on top of the toilet paper dispenser....uggghhh. I really can't say for sure if it was body hair or head hair and guess what no toilet paper in either stall. I had to Drip dry. Check out was easy however, there is absolutely no room to place your items on the counter for checkout so you have to hand it over the credit card machines one by one by catapulting items into the air and that was awkward. There were no trash cans in front of the store for...
