The food was excellent. Pho broth was fairly flavorful and the meats were decent, the noodles were as expected for any pho restaurant, and the garnishment vegges were great! The eggrolls we got as an appetizer were crispy, fried to a golden crisp and actually delicious.
Now, it’s time to talk about “the lady” everyone else is talking about. Before we came, we called to make sure they were open—She hung up the phone abruptly on me after answering with one word: “Yes” 😖 I was mid sentence in asking her a follow up question when I got hung up on.
We go anyway. Upon arrival we see “the lady” and she asks “how many?” She has the coldest demeanor, no warmth or smile or anything. It’s perplexing to see, why is she even in customer service? We didn’t feel like the rudeness was discriminatory—she was short and rude to everyone. We seat ourselves and she comes to our table to say “Ready?” and jots down our orders. Fair. Our drinks comes out momentarily. She continues to be short and abrupt with us—not allowing anyone to ask for anything or make a comment. She even rolls her eyes.
A older gentleman brings out our appetizers (which were good) and then within a decent amount of time, we get our garnishments. Shortly after, our Pho bowls come out. It was pulling teeth to talk to her. But yet, she’s the only one who is on the floor to help us. What happened? Did everyone else in the restaurant quit? And all we have left is her? My husband got so fed up, that he told her “Hey! You need to lose the attitude” but the comment went over her head 😞
We spent $170 for 2 adults with kids! We were treated like people with no voices. I really enjoyed the food and want to come back but I cannot deal with her again. The way she made us feel made us want to spit out our [delicious Vietnamese] food. If that part doesn’t bother you, then go right ahead.
Note: In Vietnam, there are street vendors, small mom n’ pop eateries, which are cut and dry and no smile with service as the norm. Also, the entire dining room was full of VIETNAMESE folk jabbering in their native tongues and Asians—And that’s an awesome sign that the food...
Read moreWhen I first arrived at the restaurant, I thought the location was decent, but as soon as I walked in, I understood why there were so many negative reviews. I don't visit Norfolk often, but this place was nearby the Best buy I was seeing. The owner was rather rude and insisted on where I should sit; I picked a table, but he immediately pointed and told me to sit somewhere where he wants me to sit. When I ordered, I asked for water, which never came. The combo pho had very few noodles, and the meatball was just one ball, sliced into quarters. The most frustrating part? My bill ended up being $25 for a combo pho. Was I also paying for someone else’s egg rolls? I should have questioned the total more carefully. At the counter, I saw multiple signs indicating surcharges, including for card payments. So, on top of everything, the extra costs are passed on to the customers. Honestly, I shouldn’t have left a $2 tip bringing my total to 27, considering the poor service and subpar food—if anything, I should've contacted my bank for a chargeback. $25 for a combo pho? Pho97 offers much better prices, and I consider them barely mediocre since they're a chain here. I don’t recommend this place. You can keep my $25, but my negative review is staying. I will be warning my coworkers to stay...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for years and love the pho. Service has never been what you’d call friendly but just ok. Today I went in at 1:00. Only a few people at tables. I went to sit at a table close to the window and the lady told me to sit at a two seater table closer to the back. Most of the tables were empty. I didn’t want to sit at the table in the back because it’s close to the restroom and they have a very very strong air freshener in the bathroom that you can smell in the whole restaurant so it ruins your taste. I told her I didn’t want to sit close to the restroom because the air freshener is strong. She was rude and huffy and when I went to sit down at the table I chose she pointed to the exact table right next to it and said rudely.. sit here. I said what’s the difference. Her whole demeanor was just so rude so I just said I’m just gonna leave and she just said yea like that’s a good idea.I would understand if they were busy and I would be taking up a four seater but they were not even close to being busy. So rude! I’ll never be back. I’ve always gotten very friendly service at Pho 79. ** In response to another review about her bad service.. I’m white so she’s not just rude to people of color. Literally one of the rudest restaurant experience...
