I've been a member of PF for close to 5 years now, but 6 months ago, I moved from Roanoke to Christiansburg and had to switch locations. This gym is decent, but it is honestly just too small for the amount of Radford and VT students that go there. I see other reviews complaining about how long people use the smith machines etc., but honestly I don't care about that as they are also paying for a membership and should be able to take up space and use the equipment. The issue is that there isn't enough equipment. Even dumbbells. You quite literally have to wait to use ANYTHING weight related...cables, machines, dumbbells, smiths...there just isn't enough equipment. I've been at every time of day and night and this PF is ALWAYS this crowded. This is the main reason that I just switched to a local, more lifting focused gym. However I do have some much bigger complaints about this location. I have seen students smoking in the locker rooms twice. The students leave their trash, the cable machine attachments, dumbbells, and plates all over the place- honestly this is the messiest and dirtiest PF I've been to (I've been to 5 others😬). One evening when I was there, one of the employees (who wasn't working that evening) came in with her dog. The dog wasn't a service dog and it was in the gym for about 30 minutes and it barked multiple times. I love dogs, but this is definitely against the rules. There is also a lot of broken/faulty equipment. I've told the workers about a couple of these things months ago and they are still broken. A lot of the employees are also younger college aged people and they just don't really clean up very well or take care of things. Honestly for $10 it's not bad, but it's just so much worse than the Roanoke ones. It needs to be bigger and/or have way more equipment...probably double the...
Read moreCan I give this experience less than a star. If so I would. My son is a Quadriplegic, he is very active but still nervous at times in public. We wanted to start working out like we did before his injury. I stopped by to check the gym out and talk to the employees. They went over and even wrote everything down. The cost, how we could schedule a trainer every Tue & Thursday and use the massagers . I was so excited,I couldn't wait to get my son started. We had a second visit so my son could meet the trainer. My son was ready to get started. We came back to sign up and found there where annual fees ,it would not have been a big deal if I had been told up front. Then I wanted to schedule time with the trainer as discussed. I was told she didn't have an opening for 8 days , I was agrphated but went ahead and scheduled it ,I told her I would need the trainer to show me how to get my son set up for each machine because he is in a wheelchair chair. She wrote on my paper 1 HR session 1/15/19. We get there on time and we are told we only have 15 min.'s. This Company advertises they work with disabled people all they did is make my son feel uncomfortable, this was a big step for him. Thank you Planet Fitness for making it so uncomfortable for my son , who already faces enough hurdles . I cancelled my membership and they said I would still receive a charge , I informed them if I did it would be a costly mistake...
Read moreThe ladies in the evening the few times I’ve been (travel a lot so use other locations too) were very nice. The guys in the morning on the weekend were rude. Never acknowledged me or other people I saw walk by. I even had to interact with them and I did the talking and when they responded it was with action and no words. When I left after using the tanning bed I thanked them as I gave the tag back and no reponse just looked at me. The facilities are clean (it’s new) so hope it stays that way.
Update... now several months in and the staff in the evening 5-8 time frame always seems pre occupied on phones and seem bothered if you ask to use the black card spa. The locker room is often dirty, with as much staff as is there it should be clean. The membership numbers seem to be growing fast because it’s the only affordable gym in our area and so I hope they expand or build a second location. Lots of bodybuilding types joining and hogging machines. The lunk alarm is never used but lots of dropping, slamming and grunting. Paper towels not stocked often and clothing rules...
