Owner is an unprofessional art framer. While he was reassuring on the phone during my inquiry, his tone certainly changed when I was trying to tell him he did a different job than we had discussed. He ruined an original one of a kind painting.
I tried describing what happened once finding the new damages and he cut me off and said it was that bad when we brought it in. I would never have invested in a ruined painting. I have before and after photos that show that there were no damages to the painting prior to entrusting this small shop.
The pine wood frame which the canvas sat on was cracked at the back with canvas and painting 100% intact. The pine wood frame would need a quick mend and any trained professional charging over 120$ should know how to deal with a quick fix like this.
If he didn't feel comfortable he shouldn't have taken the order or redirected me to somebody capable. But he reassured me beforehand, telling me he had over 30 years of experience.
He cracked the paint by overstretching the entire piece, scratched the sides and now the canvas is ripped/ pokes out on every corner. He tried folding the sides back but it looks like he's never done it before and the new curvature of the once straight 90 degree frame is totally bent. There's a big dent in the canvas when it was taut prior to bringing it in. I can't comprehend how the paint is gone on the front.
