Long Beach Municipal Ice Arena — Local services in City of Long Beach

About an a 45 minute drive from where we are in Smithtown...it's a scenic great drive along ocean pkwy to get this place.

The rink parking lot is pretty spacious, but can get a bit congested when hockey games are being played. Right near the parking area is a play ground with a playset for younger kids.

Inside is good condition and clean. Unlike some of the rinks I've reviewed, this place had a concession stand that was actually open for business. I've never eaten here, but it looks like standard rink food, pretzels, fries, hot dogs, etc.. The proshop was also open for business. it is very small, they stock some skates, hockey pads, etc, nothing special.

The rink area in pretty nice, the stands for viewing games is essentially stadium seating, with semi-hard plastic seating, so it's slightly better than sitting on concrete or metal bleachers. From up there you get a great view on the ice during games...and its nice and warm up there. Couldn't see any heating elements above where I sat, but it is warn up there.

I can't comment on the ice itself as I've not skated on it, but my son hasn't ever complained about it...

We were really excited to come out to the Long Beach ice skating rink with our family. The rink itself looks great—clean, well-maintained, and really fun. But unfortunately, the entire experience was ruined by the rental skates. If you bring your own skates, I’m sure it’s a fantastic time. But for those of us relying on rentals (which is most people), it’s a different story. The skates were terrible—uncomfortable, in bad condition, and clearly not sharpened or cared for. We couldn’t even skate properly, and it wasn’t just me—everyone in our group had the same issue. We ended up asking for a refund, which thankfully they gave us. Definitely disappointing. First off let me just say this, if you have to use the bathroom, use the ice instead. The bathroom smelled, was filthy. I smelled less urine in a bathroom in a hole in the wall bar than what I smelled in the Long Beach ice rink bathroom. I'm not one to be for mask mandates and all the covid nonsense..but I think I caught something from the bathroom. The board of health really should be told about the horrendous conditions of the bathroom. Ice was nothing special. Never has been. I've been going there off and on since the 80's...was nothing great back then. It's a shame since the New York Rangers stopped using Long Beach as a practice rink it really has...
