We visited Brixx and Barley for dinner on Thursday, 2/15/18. Being a beer maker and a beer lover, this place has been on my radar for a while. For those that don't know, brixx and barley are two beer making terms. Brix is a unit of measurement and barley is the main ingredient in beer. Catchy name for a restaurant that supposedly brews their own beer. I started with a Brixx lager and I'm pretty sure it was Coors Light draft beer that they're passing off as their own beer. If not, it certainly tasted like it. I happen to like light beer, so I had a few with my meal. For an appetizer, we ordered the honey bbq wings and the baked clams. The wings seemed a little burnt and they tried to hide the burntness with the bbq sauce. The house bleu cheese was awesome. Between the honey bbq sauce and the bleu cheese, despite being a little burnt, the wings were good. The baked clams were good but also a little burnt on top. We had to scrape some of the overly toasted bread crumbs off most of the clams. For an entree, I ordered the Brooklyn Ale Fish Tacos. Again, they were good. With fried fish, I'd expect some other ingredient to really pop, but the cilantro aioli was bland and the pico de gallo needed more salt and lime. I liked the large open bar/restaurant, our friendly waitress from Bah-ston and the presentation of all of our food. Maybe the guys in the back were having an off night but the food wasn't awesome.

I found this place after having a beach day in the area on wing Wednesday. We were greeted and sat with surprisingly quick and attentive service despite how busy it was. We tried the wings with gluten free sauces due to my finances celiac allergy. We did like the sauces, but wish there was a spicier gf option (they only had mild/ medium and I wish the medium was a little spicier). We loved that the wings were grilled, but because the GF sauce options had either a honey or maple base, it felt heavy after eating a large plate. Unfortunately when the bill came we noticed that they didn’t add the wing Wednesday discount, and had to ask to correct it two times before receiving the correct discount. Docking a service point there- not because the server was bad during the meal (he was great actually), but because they didn’t try to actually make good on the discount advertised online and their menu until we corrected them TWICE. The meal was good, but our experience was soured after feeling like they were hoping we didn’t notice they “forgot” the discount.

Est. 2014 Layout/atmosphere *Bar to the far right of the room (25 craft beer taps); high tables in the center; regular tables spread out around the room; about 20 TVs Service *Friendly bartender (Jenna) Food/drink *Maple Sriracha Wings (small order/seven) - good; definitely taste the sweetness; low level heat; decent amount of meat on the bone *Burrata Burger (1/2 lb Angus patty [beef, short rib, brisket & chuck], burrata, bacon jam, arugula, garlic aioli & fried avocado) with hand-cut French fries - solid; bun was fantastic, fresh bread/held together, burrata creamy, freshness of arugula; didn’t really taste the bacon jam, the avocado flavor was a bit muted and the patty itself was either under seasoned or overwhelmed by the other ingredients; the fries were very good; crispy, salted

This place brings new experiences to a whole different kind of level. I wish I could give this place a better rating but there’s no category for disgusting and uncaring service descriptions. Plus this happened when the restaurant wasn’t even busy . So the place was on a siesta ? The service was so poor I I can’t imagine a restaurant being so rude and dismissive . After ordering my salad with very specific instructions AND repeating the 2 changes from the menu they brought out my salad without the protein I ordered which I was confused about since we had ordered only 5 minutes earlier . The server ran to get it and it was served on a separate plate . I ordered iceberg lettuce since I didn’t want dull dark romaine. My salad was served with a large amount of the dull dingy dark romaine that should have been discarded. I called over the server and said this was incorrect from what I ordered. I had ordered iceberg which she told me she wrote down ….. She took it away and brought back the same bowl less a few pieces of dark romaine so the kitchen had put their hands in my salad to remove the dark parts but didn’t do a good job providing the lettuce I actually ordered plus put their hands in my food ! I saw it was the same salad they brought a few minutes earlier and they picked through the top to remove some pieces and returned it to me ! So I brought this to their attention and sent it back for something else. No apology no offer to bring me something else ! I had to ask for an alternative since I was disgusted by this time . Maybe an apology and acknowledgement of stupidity or just actually redoing the salad the way I ordered it might make this right but she looked at me like this was the way they made it and too bad for you ! Nothing of any mistake on their part for the fact it was incorrect or running their fingers through my food and returning it to the table . . I will never go back to such a low class dirty place that ignores specific requests when placing an order . Ignores the fact this was their mistake . Not offering to do anything to try to correct their mistake . I could only recommend that this place stay off your go to list as you don’t know where the staffs fingers have been when they pick through your food to remove the ingredients you asked not to be included in your order . Consider the fact they completely ignore specific requests when ordering so if something is requested to be left out due to an allergy you can’t be sure it will be omitted upon request . So they are playing a dangerous game of IGNORE . Plus working on customer service as a whole could use some improvement. Interesting I got the same response to my review that everyone else did . Apparently it’s an automated response to show how little they care about the subpar service customers are receiving from a neighborhood restaurant. Hopefully they won’t be around much longer with the uncaring attitude. Think of...

I am disappointed to say, Brixx has dropped the ball. I have given the place several attempts to make it better as it used to be a favorite spot but recently it has continued to disappoint. There has been several instances recently over the course of the last few months that simply should not have happened. Read on for a more descriptive review.

Beginning with the most recent. This week a group of friends and I went for food and drinks on an evening during the week that was not too busy. We ordered drinks. Then ordered food. The waiter brought our drinks and was very animated which was funny at first. As time went on, we grew hungry and no food arrived (besides an initial order of chips). I searched for the waiter. No where to be found. Eventually, found the waiter and ordered a pizza in addition to the food we had ordered. An hour went by and still no food, and no waiter to be found to check up on the food. I get a different waitress to check up on our food and come to find out nothing was put in. A pizza eventually came out to the table but it was not even the pizza I had ordered. We were then told the kitchen was closed. As a waiter you have 1 main job - put the order in. And he did not. Needless to say my friends and I left very upset and very hungry! This put a very bad taste in everyone’s mouth. A few months back my girlfriend and I ordered takeout. She had ordered a salad (with no protein) and yet upon opening our food we discovered some bones in her salad. Almost as if somehow a little remainder of bone-in wings made it into the salad. GROSS! Needless to say we discarded the food and went somewhere else that evening. Following the salad incident, I was there with some friends. I had ordered wings (I guess the bones were still on my mind). The wings came out burnt and dry. But the plate was dressed up almost as if to try and hide the burnt wings in hopes I would not notice. I’m not a big fan of burnt, dry chicken. Not sure about you. A few weeks later I had a similar instance with a burger which was simply very dry and over cooked.

I have had good times and meals at brixx, but lately they have simply been missing the beat one too many times. After going back several times and hoping it would be better, it only got worse. We will not be going back to brixx for awhile. The Sister restaurants on the island are good! Perhaps too much attention has been diverted from...

This was my first time there. Before I get to the food I first want to say what an amazing staff this place has. We had a great waitress. She was very attentive. At one point I couldnt find her to add something to our order. Their manager saw me looking and came up right away and got her but when he walked away to find her and tell her to add our wings she already came up to us and then came back thinking we needed her again becsause the manager sent her. My kids were asking tons of questions and maybe being a bit annoying. Some servers will show their annoyance but not this girl. She had a smile the entire time and made sure my kids didnt feel like she was annoyed. When a server is like this I actually enjoy leaving them a 25%-30% tip. The food was really good. There tuna tar tar was was amazing. Especially with the ingredients they put in there. Im not going to give away their secrect. At first glance I thought there isnt that much tuna. But when I stuck my fork in to break it half I was so wrong. It was packed with tuna and other delicious things. Their wings are off the hook. They are actually grilled not fried with about 25 types of flavors and from mild to hot. My wife got the fried chicken sandwich. It wasnt the plain type of fried chicken cutlet. This chicken had amazing flavor and the addons onto the sandwich were delicious. Their baked clams were really good. But still no comparison to La Piazza in Merrick. Sorry Ive been comparing baked clams to La Piazzas for years and the only place on par is at Michaels in brooklyn. But they were still excellent. I got their mussels as my main course from the apps and they were amazing. My daughter got the kids sliders which had 2 sliders and kids fries. The adult ones come with 3 sliders and the same delicious fries that my wifes sandwich came with. My other daughter got chicken fingers and fries which was also really good. But the most amazing thing we ordered was their specialty shake. I wont ruin it for you. The only thing i will tell you os there are 6 types you could order with lots of addons they come with. The 4 of us couldnt finish it. I will definitely come back. It was my bday today and this place put a huge...
