This is a review of one specific location (White Plains at the Westchester), on one specific day (a wintry afternoon in February 2022), and one specific person (Sonia), but it also happens to be a review of my entire journey with Crate for 15+ years.
When I had my first job in NYC, I used to (willingly) spend half my paycheck at Crate and its funky cousin, CB2, down in Soho.
Recently, I needed some new furnishings and had the great fortune to stumble into the store and speak with Sonia. She was not only design savvy (as in, I trusted her design judgment and aesthetic recommendations), but she was also engaging, dynamic, and fun. Elevated customer service. She's the type of person I would like to work with (or for) if I ever left the comfort of my home office.
She made the furniture-purchasing experience stress-free and enjoyable. If I could give her a raise myself, I would.
Also, I had only a brief exchange, but the manager of the store (Allisa) gave off really good vibes--and let's face it, retail is all about vibes.
The White Plains store is beautiful, clean, spacious, and thoughtfully laid out. I find myself visiting a few times a year--even when I don't need anything. Just for inspiration, or to kill an hour.
This time I needed a ton of furniture, and I'm glad I chose this place over the competition.
Plus, Crate does a lot of business with Europe (including my motherland, Poland), and they seem to be making a bigger push toward the sustainability / fair trade / support-local-artisans movement. I hope they continue moving in that direction (because, heck, otherwise: global warming and social unrest are no bueno).
Because of the exceptional customer service, I'm giving this place 5 stars. Also, this long-a%% review is really just an excuse to show off a photo of the dope mirror they had on display.
Thanks for reading, and may you thrive--in your career...
Read moreWorst delivery experience. They were unprofessional from the beginning to the end. They refused to place carpets where they were supposed to be even though service included their physical placement. I do not think the company trains those guys for proper manners and customer service.
What mortified me most was one of the guys blowed the horn in the whole neighborhood loudly multiple times when I was speaking with another guy to wrap up paper work. Really, appatently you can get that type of service after you pay $4k for carpets.
All other furniture businesses such as Bloomingdale, Ethan Allen, Bassett, Fortunoff, Country Willow and R & F provide amazing services. Crate & Barrel is disappointing to say the least. They are not near the professionel level of the other furniture stores i...
Read moreI've always loved the shopping experience at any Crate and Barrel. They do an excellent job of curating their collections and have done a good job of hiring nice people who are well trained and seem to like working there. Can some of their items be a bit pricey? Sure. But I strongly believe in "you pay for what you get". We've bought a bunch of furniture for our new home at this store and worked with Kathy - who is an absolute joy! Friendly, helpful, thoughtful... and also came up with some good ideas and suggestions for things we possibly weren't even think about. Highly...
