Read moreParis just landed in Cleveland Heights and goes by the name of Sophie. Sophie gives off the vibe of a reputable, seasoned institution rivaling other long-standing chains in terms of design and execution. The narrow doorway and windows of the storefront belie the spacious interior within. There are a good number of 2-6 person tables available, mostly occupied by families or people studying.
Street parking on Lee or in the surface lot behind will suffice. Everything is bright, clean, and clearly marked. It's also a good sign, not to mention fascinating to watch, that the kitchen is open for anyone to observe. Sweets are located in the display case closest to the door, with fresh-baked goods next to the cashier, and furthest from the door are Parisian cafe classics like bread and light pastas. The staff up front were all extremely friendly and patient as I perused.
I settled on a Parisian Flan, one each of the Financiers, and a Chai Spice Coffee Cake. While the flan was a little too sweet for my taste, my taste buds were singing with joy at the prominent but balanced flavor of real chai spices in the coffee cake. A friend tried the Jerusalem Bagel and gave it rave reviews. No cafe experience is complete without the drinks, and Sophie remains Cleveland loyal by serving Duck-Rabbit coffee and Storehouse tea. As an added bonus, Hartzler Milk and seasonal Cannonborough Sodas are available to quench your thirst - no age limit. :)
Those looking to share the love will find professionally wrapped goodies in the shelves across from the display case such as seasonal Sables, chocolates, and jams. There are beautiful tarts and cakes by the slice or whole for special occasions as well. I thought everything was fairly priced for the quality and presentation of the food. My only gripe is the limited operating hours to soak up the bakery magic, but that's probably better...
Read moreLet me start with the ambience and aesthetics⊠they nailed it! The customer service blah needs help they donât speak and just stair blankly until you are ready to order. This was not a one time thing I have come at least 4 times in the last two months and itâs the same every time. The place it too cute and fun not to have the staff match the vibe. Anywho my review is on the quality of food and not service so thatâs where the 5 âïž is coming in to play. The customer service gets a 1 âïž. Iâm in love with the pastry chef and they donât even know it!!! The complexity of flavors, layers, texture are top tier! Iâm not a huge pastry eater typically because my experience has been they taste a bit dry. However! Sophie La Gourmande has put me in pastry heaven! Who knew you could give layers of fluffy buttery goodness in every bite. The flavor combos are insane as well. As a baker I love to find ways to play on flavors and they do this so well definitely inspired by the flooring skills. I had the everything bagel croissant with dill and cream cheese most recentlyâŠWhew!!!! My mouth loved every moment! I also had the sweetheart latte that was outstanding in flavor. I will be here visiting at the very least...
