The Wine Spot — Restaurant in Cleveland Heights

The Wine Spot is one of those places that truly earned their nearly 5-star rating. I am fortunate enough to live in walking distance of this fine establishment, and I also recently became good friends with someone who loves wine.

I, myself, really don't know anything about wine. I know too many things about too many things (Scotch, bourbon, craft beer, etc.) so I prefer to have a few things in life that I don't really know about. It's nice letting some things be a mystery. Wine is a mystery to me.

It's definitely not a mystery to The Wine Spot. Every time I go in there to buy a bottle of wine for my new wine-loving friend, someone from the staff takes 5, 10, even up to 15 minutes to kindly and excitedly explain to me which wine they think my friend would like. They are budget-conscious, very discerning, and truly passionate about their recommendations. It's a delight to talk with them.

One time, for a particularly special occasion, they suggested such a good wine that my friend was literally blown away and bought an entire box of that same wine the next day.

The wine is over market price, so you're paying for the atmosphere, which is fine, maybe 4 stars if it was just that. What gives this place a 1 star, is the fact that the last two times I've bought beer there, the beer has been bad. One of those times, despite me bring the rest of the beer I bought as evidence, the bartender told me that "next time there's a problem you should bring back all of the beer" and specifically the open beer I could just "put in a paper bag". He refused to acknowledge that the beer was stale and tainted, which again is not unreasonable, but refused to taste the beers that I brought back (I mean, they weren't going to resell them right?). He was certain that the only beer that was stale and tainted, was the only one I opened, hence why he was asking for it. I eventually just bought a new six pack. And to no surprise this was also stale and tainted. So I guess I should say that it's been three, not two time I've bought stale and tainted beer there.

TLDR: they sell stale beer and agressively give you a hard time when you ask for a refund on...
