My experience was so traumatizing, I've had nightmares about it at least 3 times since that day. First, I'm a full blown natural (full, waist length, 4a-b if we're hair typing) - wash & go, twists, twist outs, braids, blow dry and only 1 pass (less than 400 degrees) straightening. I wanted a wash but needed a trim and chose to visit this place because it's black-owned and I wanted to show support. I went in one day & waited 1.5 hours for the owner to reappear at the shop just to be asked to return the next day at 2pm & detangle my hair myself. What a waste of time waiting when someone in the shop knew why I was there & should've been able to or could've helped me book an appointment while I was there waiting, but okay cool. I detangled my hair in sections and twisted it to keep the sections from tangling. I arrive 10 mins early & waited until nearly 3 before getting in a chair. My stylist was very nice and sort of talked through the process. However, that's where the positive stops. She separated all 8 twists, and proceeded to use a paddle brush to brush out my DRY hair creating further breakage I was seeing fall around me and pulling healthy strands with it. Very rough, literally yanking and forcing the brush through my curls and especially the ends where I was experiencing single strand knots and some split ends (hence the need for a trim). Shampoo - eh it was an okay experience, but we should know by now that scrunching all the hair together while shampooing will create more tangles especially for curly girls. Conditioner - she let it sit while she made a call to say she would be done with me and home in about 35 mins. Conditioning is the best time to detangle a curly girl's hair - she did not. Rinsed it out and then they were out of towels to wrap my hair & soak up some of the water! The stylist got a towel from somewhere, & quickly rubbed my hair with the towel creating more frizz. She proceeded to blow dry soaking wet dripping tangled hair in sections with that paddle brush again. I was ready to walk out with soaking wet hair. The trim was exactly that, a trim and I was happy with it. I didn't walk in at waist length and leave with a bob. However, when I got home my scalp was extremely sensitive and sore and my neck hurt from all the yanking (and rushing) she was doing. Very disheartened by this experience and I am terrified to give this salon another chance unless there was a stylist that was more knowledgeable in caring for black...
Read moreMy experience with this salon owner was TRAUMATIC. I have opted to go out of my way to shop at the Waldorf location to avoid conflict with this unhinged business owner. I scheduled an appointment to get my hair done on 9/22 and paid a $10 deposit, per the salon’s policy. When I showed up, (on time) at 10am, the owner, Dejuan, informed me that the stylist I scheduled with quit. She offered to do my hair and I accepted, however as I sat and waited she advised me that HER scheduled appointment showed up. She offered no additional accommodations to do my hair so I left: I returned shortly thereafter to remind her that I was due my $10 deposit for services not rendered. She advised me that she would call the stylist to secure the deposit. She asked me to come back later so I returned the next day. When I showed up Dejean looked at me and proceeded to do a clients hair. I waited patiently for her to finish but she completely ignored me so I asked her if she had my deposit. She rudely and abruptly said WHEN I GET IT FROM MY STYLIST, I’LL CASHAPP IT TO YOU!! Note, we never discussed cashapp, nor did she have my cashapp info to process a refund. I tried reasoning with her to get my deposit returned by reminding her that collecting a deposit is the SALONS POLICY not the stylist, so the OWNER owes me for services not rendered. She walked towards me in an aggressive manor, but turned around and threw her hand up and said GIRL BYE! Walmart security witnessed the entire incident. She was rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. I reported her to Walmart management and to the corporate office, both advising that they have no jurisdiction over her salon. TO DATE, she has not refunded my money, but Walmart eventually did as a courtesy. I hope Walmart does a better job vetting who they allow to rent space in their stores. Allowing her to mistreat valuable customers and disrupt business is disappointing to...
