What happened to this once awesome place. I've been to the original location on Somerville and I just had my second haircut at the Herndon location. My first two haircuts I love very much and I found that the people there were extremely knowledgeable with style and we're able to cut the hair extremely well. However I got my haircut there yesterday and it is easily the WORST HAIRCUT i have ever had. I found that the woman who cut my hair Not only was not aware of mens style but she actually wasn't able to properly and accurately cut my hair whatsoever. She had missed a number of spots where she was giving me the number 2 around my sides, so I have multiple uncut places around my head. She went way too high up on the undercut on the back of my head, didn't properly cut the top portion of my hair either and during the whole process she waited till the very end to pin up my hair (i had semi long hair) so as she was giving me the number 2 around my sides, she clipped my ear many times. She did say she was new to the place but she'd been cutting hair for many years. I felt almost as if they hired her from a Super Cuts establishment. And more importantly what I noticed about the whole ambience of the barbershop is that it felt very different from the first two times I went there. The first two times it felt like this very stylish men's barber shop with extremely knowledgeable barbers that new mens style very well. This time around I felt like the entire place had kind of reverted back to your everyday cookie cutter Barber Shop. Many new faces and maybe everybody else there would have performed a better haircut than the person I had but the entire Place felt different. The uniqueness that they had seem to have disappeared. Its like they went from a quality 1 location to saying screw the quality to quantity. Having photos of hipsters and motorcycles and a cool color scheme doesn't matter if they can cut hair right!!! However I did call their original location and express to them my displeasure with my haircut and they did say they'd be willing to get me in and try to salvage it for me for free. So they do seem to be very accommodating still and I hope the original location has more of the feel, knowledge and expertise that I noticed the first two times I've been to the Great American barber shop. I will not ever go back to the Herndon location and depending on what happens at the original location when they try to fix it, it may be he whole establishment...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place gives a good haircut but lacks severely in the customer service/attention to detail department! Today would of been my third haircut but after an hour and ten min wait I walked out. The story goes like this. I walk in at 530 sign my name and request Whitney, pick a seat and chill. It was busy so I expected some wait for sure. She gets done with a couple hair cuts and goes to the front sign in sheet, has a conversation with who I assume is the manager or owner then, takes another client. Iām sitting there thinking ok I must be next, sweet! She gets done with that cut and does the normal sweep and clean like everyone else gets her things and is gone with the wind! Mind you I have been sitting there for about 40 min at this point and supprisingly Iām not that upset with it! I get it things come up and you gotta go, fine. So now I am sitting and waiting, more people other than myself are getting called, Iām getting frustrated and trying to rationalize why Iām not getting called. So I do the socially polite thing and get up stretch, walk over to the sign in sheet and take a look. On my way back to my seat one of what barbers asked if I had any questions I replied ājust stretching, Iāve been here awhileā āok cool just checkingā! Perfect my polite social ques worked! NOPE! Next barber gets up calls another person! I get up and on my way out the door a different barber ask me what my name was it told him my name and informed him I had been waiting there an hour and ten minutes and had no interest in waiting another second! One would think that after seeing a guy waiting for that long someone would inquire before calling another person much less informing the said person that the person they requested would not be able to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been wandering, from haircut place to haircut place since my previous person moved to Bakersfield.
When I first looked into this shop, I was surprised by the look and feel of the place. My uncle had gone here a while ago and said it was good.
So, trip one. It was busy, and the people closest to the front desk seemed annoyed that I didn't understand how to get checked in, and I had questions. At that point, I chose to leave.
I needed a haircut and another friend of mine suggested this place. I explained my walk-in experience, and he said, "Dude, just do it online." So I took a look. It was a little easier to get the gist of what they offered and how the process worked. I booked with TJ for a haircut.
The app then asked me to pay and tip. Since my tips are not automatic and instead based on the performance of the hairstylist, I chose to pay after my cut.
I arrived about 15 minutes early for my time slot, and the stylist called my name just a few minutes after the designated time. The conversation was great. The atmosphere was great. Most importantly, the haircut was great! I left the shop with a solid 1.5 side, blended up, with plenty of length on top. TJ then trimmed up my facial hair and made it look great!
I gave this place 5 stars as the actual experience was great once I figured out the process. TJ was an awesome stylist/barber, and I'm absolutely happy to have found this combination of...
