It was late in the evening and we were on our way home after spending all day sightseeing and biking in Yosemite Valley. Realizing it would take 2+ hours to drive home, we decided we better have dinner first. Most places were closed or near closing time but we googled and found Shila’s schedule fit our needs The location is situated in a shopping mall. It’s Saturday evening but the place has only a few patrons. Not much atmosphere compare to other Korean restaurants that I’d been to so I begin to worry, but I’m here for the food. Well, as soon as we got seated, our waitperson came and brought us water and took our first order of the night. She was extremely friendly, courteous, and patience throughout the night. We are big eaters and we kept ordering all the meat dishes and she kept bringing them out. Their only rule is you can l only order three meat plates at a time but that’s the way it is for most restaurants. And guess what! Every dish we ordered was pretty good. The pork belly and beef brisket were sliced thin and come plain or marinated with a medium spice sauce. The marinated rib eye steak was also deliciously prepared. The jumbo prawns were huge and were very tasty. The side dishes could have tasted better but honestly, it was near closing time. All the other items, like the steamed egg, etc were pretty good. The vegetable plate with the lettuce, mushroom, and an assortment of peppers was fresh and crispy. I was amazed how often the servers kept swapping out our burnt grills for a fresh clean grill, without asking😱. Finally, we loved that they gave us the opportunity to put in our last order before they closed the kitchen down for the night. No attitude or disrespect, just making sure our hunger is satisfied. Very pleased with how our day ended. This establishment gets a...
Read moreDon’t even bother coming here, it’s a rip off. Poor quality of meats and sides. The food served was practically inedible. If you want Korean food, go to Bulldoc or buy the meat/pre-made sides at the store!
Came here for the 1st time and was excited to try this place. But unfortunately was very disappointed and unsatisfied, and won’t be returning.
They also have a very small meat selection. The only good meat choice was the beef brisket, and that’s probably because it’s frozen. The rest of the meat options were old. Galbi is one of my favorites but couldn’t even enjoy that as it was old and chewy. I ended up spitting it out. Ordered the tofu soup but even that was a disappointment as it is not the true tofu soup (soondubu). The broth is different, received 1 piece of tofu and several mushrooms.
The banchan (sides) were terrible too. I have never seen or eaten brown kimchi before today, and I had to spit that out too. The japchae was hard. The pickle cucumber was a nasty too. So I didn’t bother trying the other 2 sides. Also, they only offer rice and/or lettuce.
For an AYCE KBBQ, it’s not worth the price. They try to make money so they up-charge for everything from water to using your card. They charge the highest gratuity percentage automatically as well, even though their services do not match. My daughter was charged as an adult so they could make extra money because they have an inaccurate height measurement that indicates she’s 5’3-5’5, but at the doctors she’s 4’10. Even if I showed recent medical records of her height, there was no point because they want their money and they...
Read moreSo I figured we just got out of swim lessons, we didn’t feel like cooking, so why not take the family out. We go to a spot we frequent quite often, Shila Korean BBQ. The lady at the front measures my daughter and she’s under 42” then seats us (Apparently they charge children a certain rate based on their height). Our daughter eats the usual...white rice that comes with our adult meals. She doesn’t touch the sides they provide (Kimchi, potato salad, cucumbers, etc) nor does she eat the meat. Plus she drank water. We finish up and get the bill which showed them to have charged us for our daughter eating, $12. We ask the server why were being charged when our daughter ate the rice that came with our meals and we’ve never been charged for her just eating our rice. He asks the manager who eventually came to the table and explained (rudely) the servers we had before must’ve not charged like they are supposed to and how is she supposed to know whether she ate or not. We pay our bill. As we leave, my wife again asks why we’d be charged. She gives the same explanation and my wife says, “So what you’re telling me is we’re paying $12 for rice.” Then she calls out the manager about the height requirements as she charged us for a bigger child since ours was under the 42”. She finally got up from her seated position to remeasure her but was stopped by my wife saying, “It doesn’t matter anymore, we’ve already paid.” And we walk out. I like the food there but I’ll NEVER go back. Poor management and argued with us. Server Eric was...
