It had the potential of me liking it enough to come back during my stay in the city, but sadly I will decline. An outline of my visit (I know it's long but I was there for a while):
I came in and the young man at the host desk seemed confused by me being the only party, so I said I'd sit at the (sushi) bar, where I was silently greeted with a smile by the sushi chef, (whom I later learned is called JP) who was busy making a huge platter. I ended up sitting there for over 5 min before JP paused in his work to find a waiter for me. I got a sticky menu (seriously guys, please wipe these) I ordered water And when she returned, I already knew what I wanted and said, "I'd like to get the seafood udon." To which she asked me, "Is that a roll on the sushi menu?" 😐 No.. It's a dinner menu item. (Is she new?) It was evidenced once more that my waitress didn't know the menu when I had to go find her (as she never checked on me the whole time) to ask for the house salad that came with my meal. My empty/dirty side dishes remained at my spot the entire meal, and my waitress, Kate, (who'd never introduced herself at the beginning, I had to inquire her name when I asked for my salad), never returned to my table, and I saw her leave with a couple others without a word later. Her replacement, who's name escapes me but I think it starts with an "A", came over and removed my dirty side dishes and said he'd be finishing taking care of me in her absence. Good job, "A."
And as a side note, I'm not sure if this is normal at this restaurant, but having your waitstaff sit at the bar so close to customers folding napkins/utensils and chitchatting like they're not even at work was very unprofessional and a bit annoying, especially since they were neglecting the customers in the room (like me, Kate) and could probably be doing something else to be productive. I hope I just came on a bad night.
Really, the only reason I gave 3 stars instead of 4/5 is because the food was very good and cooked expertly, and JP took good care of me (accommodating my request for extra spice and seasoning) even though I wasn't even his customer. Next time I'll just go for the sushi and give JP all my...
Read moreOkay I will start by saying I have been here within the last couple of years atleast 6 times a month! (Which is saying something since it is SO EXPENSIVE!) it was amazing!!! The clear soup and salad were to die for to begin every meal (they still are) and I got not only the hibachi grill but sushi as well. We would go in about 45 minutes before closing time, only because the seating around the hibachi is horrible when you have to sit next to people, usually weird. I preferred sitting alone and the chef did less of a show because there was a time crunch. They were nice and fast because we were practically the only ones there! (Tiger roll is my favorite I usually buy two)
Well on to my review... what would have been a 10 star out of 5. Turned to a 2. We went for valentines maybe a year after eating there last. I spoke highly of it to my new boyfriend. We got there and immediately a waitress was rude to me. She totally ignored me and kept looking at my boyfriend. She then sat us in the sushi section NEXT TO THE TRASH CAN IN A CORNER!!! She was rude when she served my soup and salad. They were both great except the soup had one half of a mushroom slice... when it used to be a lot so we asked for more. She ROLLED HER EYES! The food took forever to show up even though we were watching the sushi chefs and they were talking and my boyfriends steak was over cooked and cold. The plate was 90% vegetables and only some steak. My sushi was hot and cold and tasted old which was so surprising to me!!! I am so disappointed I loved it here. The service the food Deteriorated over the last year so much. It’s not worth it anymore. Which is sad because it was so good I’d spend 100$ EASY on just myself and had no regrets.
I would just say that there is a gamble. It might be really good or horribly bad. We did get our meal for free though. It’s just not worth the money for...
Read moreWent here this evening for the first time. The restaurant was not that busy by the look of it. I’d say only 1/2 full. The waitress we got was nice. The issues came with the food. Our party of 2 ordered 2 hibachi meals, with crab Rangoons, and edamame, and we each ordered 2 sushi rolls. The rangoons were soggy like they were under cooked. Then when it came to our meals the chicken on my meal was as tough as shoe leather! After completing our hibachi and waiting for another 20 minutes we asked about the sushi rolls and was told that the ONE sushi chef they had, hadn’t even started on our rolls that we had ordered at the same time as everything else. So we asked for them to cancel them. To this the waitress stated “well we can just put them in a to go container”…. Um .. you are missing the point. We didn’t want to wait longer for them. This also seemed to be the trend for everyone, as we overheard multiple people complain that the sushi was taking too long. They need a second person making it!
This could of all been overlooked and this review may not have happened until I saw the obvious violations of health codes…
I witnessed one of the waitresses man handle a customers sushi roll with no gloves on after the same hand had been used to rub her nose…. Gross 🤮
There was a worker behind the counter blowing her nose, not washing her hands after, and to make things worse—- she was LITERALLY in a onesie type of hooded pajama outfit. Earlier we had overheard her tell a grub hub driver that she wasn’t clocked in and was “just stopping by”… take your snotty nose somewhere else then!! It’s COVID season for Pete’s Sake!
My total is ended up being $80 and it was definitely not worth it for poor service and gross food.. I will NOT be back!
And I understand that the world is understaffed at this point but this is...
