We took our first and newborn son here for his first pediatric follow up visit. The service at check-in was excellent but what followed was shameful.
First, my wife was overwhelmed with a barrage of questions while I was helping either a trainee or an MA get measurements on my son outside the room. My wife had just given birth, was recovering from a c-section, and was sleep deprived. There should be a balance between collecting information that will be used at the time of the visit versus checking boxes.
Second, we were offered an on-site lactation consultation which we initially denied since we had already made in-home arrangements. The staff member then told us it was of no cost to us and we could receive the consultation during that encounter. We accepted and then shortly after she told us the lactation consultant was too busy to see us today but we could leave our number. It is a good thing we made our arrangements beforehand since they did not have time for us.
Third, when the pediatrician came in, she never introduced herself walked, then walked straight to the computer and asked "What questions do you have?". Her manner felt mechanical rather than sincere. There was virtually no attempt to get to know us, what the purpose of the visit was, or what would be done. The energy she brought to the room was cold. I had to look at her badge when she examined my son to see her name and what type of provider she was. I thought she might have been a resident but I was wrong. This is not how you start a multi-year relationship.
Fourth, prior to examining our son she understandably removed his swaddle and clothing. But after she finished her evaluation she just walked back to her computer leaving him bare as if he was some type of commodity that was no longer of use. As someone who delivers patient care myself, I can not fathom treating someone's loved one this way.
Our experience was at odds with one of the quality measures on NCH's website: "Treat Me With Respect". Ironically, the survey results on the website are only for inpatient care and stop at 2021. I guess their quality did too. Needless to say, we will not...
Read moreDr. Victoria Elliot is my daughters Endocrinologist and is absolutely everything I could want as a specialist! She truly cares, listens, takes her time as if we're the only appointment she has for the entire day. Goes above and beyond! Called me herself and spoke over the phone for an hour discussing everything in depth. Called a Research program herself based in Colorado to see if it would be beneficial and provide more information than we already had about my daughter. Dr. Elliot is doing what she was born to do and I thank God I did my research and chose her to care for my daughter!
As far as the rest of the staff, from the receptionist when we get there to check in, to the Nurse, Nutritionist and Emily Walker,FNP/APRN who had seen my daughter once while Dr. Elliot was on leave are all amazing!!! How the entire department runs smoothly and how all employees take their time and listen is truly mindblowing. THAT is exactly how Dr appointments should be....
