The Book Loft of German Village is truly a magical place for any book lover! The moment you step inside, you’re surrounded by shelves upon shelves of stories, winding hallways, and charming little rooms filled with every genre imaginable. With 32 rooms to explore, it feels like a cozy adventure—each corner reveals something new, from hidden literary gems to popular favorites. Whether you love fiction, poetry, history, or cookbooks, there’s something special waiting for you.
What makes The Book Loft even more wonderful is the atmosphere. The building itself has so much character—old brick walls, creaky wooden floors, and soft background music that make browsing feel calm and inviting. Every room has its own unique vibe, and getting “lost” in the maze of books is half the fun! The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to help you find the perfect read or recommend something unexpected.
Prices are great, too, with many books offered at a discount, so it’s easy to leave with more than you planned (in the best way possible). It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger and explore every shelf.
What also adds to its charm is its perfect location—it’s right next door to a fun little coffee shop, making it the ideal spot to grab a warm drink and dive into your new book right away. The surrounding German Village neighborhood is peaceful, historic, and full of character, with brick streets, quiet corners, and beautiful old homes that make the whole experience even more enjoyable.
The Book Loft isn’t just a bookstore—it’s an experience. Between the endless book selection, cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and the charming neighborhood around it, it’s a place that truly feels special. Whether you’re a lifelong reader or just looking for a relaxing and inspiring way to spend an afternoon, this is a must-visit spot in Columbus. I’d give it a full 5 stars—it’s the kind of place that makes you fall in love with books...
Read moreI am overjoyed to admit I GOT LOST in this wonderful maze of Books...and all things pertaining to. Let the bibliophile in you run amok in this literary labyrinth, where the written word RULES: every corner, nook, and cranny! Literally! I found myself picking up FAR too many books to purchase. But, it simply wasn't my fault. The Book Loft is sooo stuffed with books of every category and sub-category...every author imaginable....all the popular books...all the banned books...all the underground books...all the secret literature....all the books I had never heard of but now I absolutely 💯 MUST read....all the manuals and self-help books and DIY books ...and on and on and on and around the corner and up the stairs and to the left and on....I thought to myself, well, this MUST be a library! Lol! It is not, though. Make no mistake. You must take your wonderful selections...all your new books, cookbooks, logic problem puzzle books, tarot cards, finger puppet magnets, D&D dice, etc,...to the counter where the amazing staff will help you sort everything out and pay for final purchases. The staff truly are lovely. As I first mentioned, I got lost. Without the staff, literally guiding me this way or that, I might have stayed in one section, staring in awe at the leather D&D dice mats, rather than scooping up a much desired copy of "The Four Agreements". I...
Read moreAfter seeing plenty of online articles about the Book Loft we had to check it out. First, the shop is great but NOT stroller friendly or even really kid friendly…more on that later. The shop is wall to wall books over multiple levels and it starts as soon as you walk in the door, it’s so expansive they offer maps and there are QR codes around so you can find your way. The books are sorted by genre and author so once you find the room you need to get to it’s not too hard to find the book you’re looking for. The staff were friendly and eager to help or point you in the direction you need to go. Be aware you enter the building on one side of the block but exit on the other side of the block. Now the not kid friendly part, there’s stairs everywhere and while some are only a few steps others are entire flights. With all the books it makes for tight quarters so unless your kid is 100% aware of their surrounding get ready for them to be pushed around by the other patrons. And the patrons, some of the worst you could imagine…the pretentiousness could be cut with a knife and those were the more pleasant ones. The jerks were the ones that couldn’t stand that a child was brought there in the first place, definitely the first time I’ve experienced frowns and disdain for bringing a child to a book store. Anyways it’s a cool shop and the WHOLE family will be...
