My Favorite public skate rink! (For a few reasons!)
-Parking; If you attend a public skate session, be sure to park in the "Nationwide Area Parking Garage". Be sure to take your parking ticket with you inside. At the front "Skate Rental Desk" they will validate your parking ticket with a free sticker and your parking will be free if you pay to skate.
-Ice Quality; I've skated here alot over the last few years and only maybe twice found the ice to be rough from a previous hocky game. But otherwise it is always as smooth as glas and very (hard ice)colder ice than most rings. One perk is that the ice at Ice Haus will generally always have superior ice conditions, due to the fact it is the home practice rink for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
-Staff; Also due to the fact this is the home practice rink for the Columbus Blue Jackets, The Staff at this rink always seem to be more professional and courteous than what you will find at other Chiller rinks. They keep an eye on the rink through the big glass windows and though they are not known for calling people down about petty things, if someone is doing something really dangerous like brushing people over or skating while holding an infant, they will nicely remind the customers of their policys and give a few warning before asking them to get off the ice.
-Rink Atmosphere; Unlike many rinks, the atmosphere at Ice Haus is superior in a few ways.
Of course as with any rink, it seems the staff often set the stage for the atmosphere. And staff here are very Friendly, Helpful, Laid back, and Professional at what they do. That being said; (1). -Lockers and benches are in direct view of the staff members at the front desk. This discourages pilfering or people tampering with your items while you skate. Also the benches and lockers can be seen by skaters without leaving the rink which can also be a peace of mind. (2). -Rink is always well lit with bright overhead LED lights, no dim disco stuff happens here. Always easy to see the ice, those your skating with and keep an eye on your kids if you bring them. (This is a very kid-safe and family environment because of this.) (3). -Music is never overbearing like you may find at many other rinks. Sometimes the music is so soft that while skating you can't even hear it, which makes it a very peaceful place to skate and one that you can talk with your special someone while you skate without the need to raise your voice. Music may be louder doing Christmas time as they play the traditional Christmas music.
It's a great place to ice skate, and if for some reason your experience was anything less than enjoyable.. give it another chance, this place is A1 in my book and I plan on skating here lots more! God bless!
(Ps. I have no affiliation with Nationwide, Chiller, Ice Haus, or anyone else which would lead me to make up a biased review, I'm just a skater, sharing my...
Read moreThis place is located against nationwide arena and not super easy to figure out. Of course when we visited the road to get through was closed so it became even more difficult. Parking was a pain, parking on the street means you walk quite a ways to get there. If you park in the garage across the street you pay but if you read the sign and it says go to arena garage you follow the road behind. When you get there it's also a paid garage and if you want to go to ice Haus you either take a ton of stairs up and down or you take the elevator and walk all the way around nationwide arena.
If there was a better way we couldn't find it and neither could anyone we ran in to trying to figure this all out.
The arena itself was okay. Nothing special, the bleachers are up quite a lot of stairs but there is room down around the rink to stand. It is not too cold inside so...
