I was considering coming back to Virtue after several years, but after reading a few recent reviews for the Clintonville location that confirmed and echoed my very poor last experience at this Brewery District location, I feel I have a responsibility to share what happened to me and am too nervous to come back even though I loved it there originally. I'm not sharing this to ambush the stylist and won't name them; just sharing to provide fair context and support to the few recently on the other location who said similar things in their reviews. I'll admit this is a bit of closure for me, as well, because I was so embarrassed by my cut at the Brewery District location that I didn't know what to do and did not notify the salon at the time. If you like quirky, creative cuts and are not too tied to your hair, you should go here! This salon is great for that.
I loved the actual Virtue salons experience, but had the worst and most devastating haircut of my life with a Virtue stylist at this location. The stylist decided to cut my hair just basically however they wanted to cut it. I showed pictures of what I wanted for my bangs to the stylist. This was a follow-up appointment so we discussed how that same stylist (!!) had cut it the time before and looked at pictures of that previous cut. I LOVED the first cut that stylist gave me. We were extremely specific that this should be a trim on my CURTAIN bangs that I was trying to grow out and a trim on my existing style.
However, they ended up giving me an absolutely horrifying choppy bang trim, pretty much mutilating my hair and the style they themselves had trimmed just months before -- including one bang piece that was so short (and in the direct middle of my forehead) that it was just 2-3 centimeters long. I received a haircut that was chunky, embarrassing and impossible to style, with pieces varying in length by multiple choppy inches. That short middle piece in particular took weeks to grow out again. It was the literal opposite of what we discussed, and it was truly just devastating.
I had been growing out my bangs for months, and this haircut absolutely decimated my self-confidence. To this day, I have no idea why they decided to completely ignore what we discussed and go off to a completely different style, but it was totally unacceptable. People's hairstyles affect their professional image, their self-confidence, their dating life...you simply can't change what someone asks for just because you feel like it.
If you want a fun, different style and are quirky with your hair, Virtue is probably a great...
Read moreI rarely leave reviews, but this experience deserves one.
I came in with bad highlights and was brought in twice to âfixâ them. The first time they added more highlights/balayageâmy hair turned orange. The second time, Lacey (who was very sweet and genuinely tried her best) did improve things a bit, but after washing my hair, it was still not right.
When I called back, the manager Kendra told me they would not do anything further. That in itself is disappointing, but what really shocked me was how she handled the situation. She told me I said I was happy both timesâas if that excused their results. Of course I said that in the chairâI had already been there over 7 hours total, I have a 4-month-old baby at home, and anyone whoâs sat in a salon knows itâs incredibly uncomfortable to say âI hate itâ to a stylist who does this for a living. That was used against me, which felt manipulative and unprofessional.
On top of that, Kendra implied my story âdidnât add upâ with what the stylists saidâas if I was lying. Why on earth would I lie, especially when I specifically asked them to just dye my hair back to brown (which means I canât bleach my hair again until it grows out)? Gaslighting a paying client is absolutely unacceptable.
So here I am: \$300 later, unhappy with my hair, and left feeling belittled by a manager who clearly has no interest in customer care. This salon has two locations, but I would never recommend either after the way I was treated. If you want to spend hundreds of dollars to walk out with damaged, brassy hair and then be accused of not telling the truth when you speak upâthis is your place. Otherwise, save yourself the time, money, and frustration.
Additionally, the last photo (taken from behind, showing the small highlights) is how my hair looked when I first came in. Thatâs what I was trying to have corrected, yet Kendra still claimed that was the reason my hair turned out...
Read moreBooked a haircut with rylee at virtue salon to get a haircut and I couple face framing highlights. We talked about doing a couple highlights underneath because I wear my hair up a lot. She started the service and started putting a lot of foils towards the back of my head. I was confused and tried to clarify with her that I wanted the highlight mostly around my face and I wanted the rest of my head untouched. She basically said oh yeah I can do that. Then continued to fill my entire head with foils. I felt very uneasy that she made no effort to clarify and gave me the silent treatment. I knew something was off. When she was finished my hair was completely bleached with highlights. I was upfront and said this isnât what I wanted. She said I could come back and she would do her best to fix it. When I came back into the salon she said that she knew she wasnât doing what I wanted after I said something but â it was too late to stopâ So she figured giving me the silent treatment and bleaching my entire head was the best option. Even after she said this I figured Iâd give her a chance to fix it. She put a hair gloss on my hair to try and tone down the blonde that has already rinsed out and gave me two thick blotchy face framing highlights. My hair is left severely damaged and falling out a breaking in handfuls. I donât usually leave reviews. But this went so badly that I felt an obligation...
