Original Review: "Not really impressed with Columbus Axe Throwing, the lack of transparency of the additional conditions for their "free axe throwing" Facebook ad posted on 6/5/24, and the average food available upstairs at Ash & Em.
Took my three coworkers on an impromptu lunch trip to get food and throw axes because of Columbus Axe Throwing's Facebook story offering free axe throwing with a drink or food purchase. There were about 8-12 other people around 11:45am on a Thursday and staff was friendly, but after ordering food, we were informed that the deal from social media had a limit of 15 minutes of axe throwing. After seeing our disappointment, the bartender mentioned that since it wasn't busy, we could throw longer. We were only allowed to use one lane despite there being three other lanes not being used on the first floor.
When we arrived, the bartender told us that they had a lunch deal, but that they had sold out of wings the night before. We went upstairs to order food and the first burger that I tried to order, they were out of those ingredients as well. The food that we did get was okay, but nothing special. The fries were similar to McDonald's fries, except shorter, meaning that half the portion was difficult to dip.
Looking back on the ad, there was no mention of a time limit or any other terms and conditions outside of the food or drink purchase, so we definitely were lead there under false pretenses. As a result, we probably won't be back."
Owner's original response approximately 5:30pm (screenshot attached): "We are so sorry that your "free axe throwing" experience wasnt up to what you felt it should be. You wanted multiple lanes with 4 people? Id give you a refund. but it was free!"
Owner's 1st edited response approximately 2-4am further added (screenshot added): "So it cost you nothing! You took your employees out on a coupon for free. Its free axe throwing. How do you leave a 2 star review for something you didnt even have to pay for. SMH. Do better Ben. We are a 4.9 for a reason. Im sorry that you decided you will not come back for free axe throwing. Also, ben you made your employees pay for their drinks and food. BOTH of your employees left 5 star reviews. Ben. You suck"
Owner's 2nd edited response approximately 10:30am the next morning removed both previous responses and replaced them with (screenshot added): "Its free axe throwing ben."
My additional response: I've attached screenshots and transcripts of your various responses for transparency, which is something I brought up in my original review. I'm disappointed that you personally attacked a customer for taking advantage of an offer that you publicized with the purpose of attracting more people to the building. My review included facts as well as my opinions from visiting your venue and using your products, which is what a review is. You are more than welcome to disagree, but I hope that any individual considering your company understands that they may be subject to personal insults if they offer a review that differs from...
Read moreWe went to the South High St location and it unfortunately will be the only time coming to this business. From the get we weren’t really welcomed, the manager was completely rude and disrespectful to the staff, and talked down to them in front of patrons which didn’t put a good taste in our mouths. Our axe expert was great at explaining and showing us how to throw the axe but then never came back around. The bartenders were VERY disinterested in getting us drinks and we were 2 of a total of 6 people in the place. Being a couple that doesn’t really drink alcohol, I was floored when we were charged $2 every single time we wanted our soda refilled. It was 6:00pm on a Saturday evening and if the group of 4 next to us wouldn’t have walked in, we would’ve been the only people in the place. There’s signs EVERYWHERE about tipping not only the bartenders but your axe expert as well but the only way to tip your axe expert is by scanning a QR code and send them their tip to their personal Venmo or Cash app account, which seems pretty illegal to me but also a bit ridiculous for 2 minutes of instruction and nothing more for the hour that you’re there. A tip is earned, and should not be expected for doing the bare minimum of your job requirements. I should also note that this is a bar, that provides entertainment. However, there was no music on, and several TV’s hung but were not turned on (and it’s college football season). The entire staff (manager included) were sitting at the end of the bar hanging out and I felt like I was an unwanted guest at some random house gathering. Outside of the awkward environment that the staff created, the axe throwing was pretty fun...
Read moreI was excited to finally throw axes and this location seemed great. Unfortunately when I went to go in, a majority of the staff had their masks down and people were constantly walking in without masks. I asked about the price and both employees had their masks down until I asked them to put their masks on because I was high risk. The man said if I was I probably shouldn’t go in because they have had a hard time having customers keep their masks on when they were throwing, albeit all the people throwing had them on but those at the bar and the employees did not. I asked why he wasn’t making sure it was safe and he said he wasn’t willing to put his staff at risk with the potential of violent customers. Mind you, he also said the establishment had been written up a couple of times for their inability to keep the mandated mask policy enforced. Here’s the irony, he’s supposedly worried about his staff but evidently not the safety of all his customers during a global pandemic. It may look nice but I would stay away during the pandemic. They could easily stop people from entering like all businesses are doing if people don’t have masks on but instead they are making excuses and allowing their business to put people at risk during a global pandemic which surely is slowing down the recovery rate. Stay away at this point for...
