Nancy's Alterations, Yarn Shop and Tuxedo Rental — Local services in Conway

In my ten years in the Mount Washington Valley I have found this to be the most poorly organized and run business I have encountered.

As this now is the only place in the valley that does dry cleaning I visited this outlet on Monday, 21 December 2020 to drop off a large order of dry cleaning, including my tuxedo I needed for New Year’s Eve.

I was told by the presumed owner that my order could not be completed until 1 January 2021.

I then questioned that an order couldn’t be turned around until 12 days later? Was this because of the holiday?

The woman was confused and someone else in the business, a nan, said no that if you get the items to us by Wednesday, 23 December 2020, the order would be ready by Wednesday, 30 December 2020.

The woman said she would call the dry cleaner, as it is done off property to verify. She apparently couldn’t connect with that dry cleaning service. The woman further said she would call me back and let me know if the order could get completed.

That afternoon, 4 hours later, I received a call and was told the order could be completed exactly how the man had stated.

I immediately retuned and should have done an about face, when the same woman didn’t recognize me and initially forgot we had talked on the phone 15 minutes earlier.

Strange as it was, the woman then had me dump my expensive clothes on the floor of her store so she could take account what was in the order.

One of the items, my tux shirt she stated, “Do you want this dry cleaned also?” I confirmed I did.

The woman handed me a hand written receipt that I couldn’t read. The woman stated the order would be ready at 1100 on the 30th.

On 30 December 2020, my wife went to pickup the order and handed in the receipt. The same woman stated the order wasn’t ready. When questioned further she said, the order was in fact in.

Upon arriving home, after a long day at work, I went through the order my wife had picked up, only to find my tux shirt was not included.

I immediately went to the store and the woman said it wasn’t there, I never gave it to her and then she called the dry cleaners who said they didn’t have it either.

I was completely annoyed in the complete incompetence, lack of customer service and recovery, and attitude of this establishment.

I highly recommend if you need a dry cleaning you drive to Portland or Saint Johnsbury and you don’t frequent this establishment under any...

Do NOT order online from this shop. You will not get a confirmation that the order was received and you will not get a confirmation that it was shipped. Their website said the yarn was in stock, but it was not in stock and they had the company ship it to me, but didn't notify that they were doing this. Had I known I would have ordered it elsewhere. I had to call three times to find out what was going on. They seemed unorganized and a bit rattled when talking on the phone. They couldn't find the tracking number and then called back and wanted me to call the company that THEY had ship it, but didn't give me the information. By then it was too late. I wanted the yarn within a week as I was going on a trip and I had chose this shop as they were only hours from where I live. Long story short ... instead of a two day shipping time it took two weeks. Never will I EVER order from this shop again. The customer service...

I've only had one dress altered here but Nancy was very professional and made me comfortable as she was measuring and doing what she needed. The staff is always welcoming and available to ask questions or offer suggestions for what yarns would be great used in particular projects. This is a locally owned and operated store. The yarn selection is amazing, from soft baby yarns, variegated sock, and heavier sweater and scarf yarns, there's so much to choose from. There's also a good selection of notions, knitting needles of all types, button boxes, stitch holders, etc. The prices can be more than big box or online stores but the quality is better and definitely worth...
