This was one of the coolest climbing gyms I have ever experienced, and I would definitely come back if I had a partner. There's a slackline on the rooftop patio which made for amazing views. Plenty of top rope and lead climbing. There are NO AUTO BELAYS which made it impossible for my to do any climbing by myself which was frustrating. There also were not many climbers in the top rope area to partner with. This definitely is a road block if you are coming by yourself. The bouldering area was fairly small which also led to it being more packed. These things combined lead me to rate it only 4/5 stars because it is not as inclusive for solo climbers.
Austin, the power yoga teacher, was AMAZING! The energy he brought to class was invigorating and you can tell how passionate he is. I have been to plenty of yoga classes with Movement, but his energy is unmatched. I would highly recommend his Friday classes! He is encouraging and helpful, and the hour class goes by so fast! The women's locker room was especially nice with lockable lockers that you change the code to and a dry sauna. It was around 200 degrees in there. The showers were also nice with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Towels are provided (though mostly for being sweaty I presume) and there is a hair dryer! It was an entire days worth of activities and then you can shower and go out to the many bars nearby! I would recommend at least checking this gym out...
Read moreMovement is great gym for getting into yoga not just rock climbing. I took Gio's class not knowing anything about yoga. In complete honesty I found myself very nervous about doing yoga then soon later fully involved and applying myself to the class. He managed to create a environment where its all inclusive and inviting.
Before we even started he engaged with us asking us asking if we had any areas that we are particular interested on going towards. From there he built the session with the answers in mind. He also brings us to a moment to think about what our intent for the class is, which is something i don't think about really. Through out the class he acknowledged if certain things were too hard and provided other poses that might be easier. I often get caught up with trying to keep up with everyone but with these reminders, it reminds me that its okay to go at my own pace. At the end he makes sure and ask and takes extra time to explain certain thing if you didn't catch things as well.
It's instructors like this that I like to see. The ones who generally care that what he teaches actually helps. It makes you think that not just the poses are important but also the environment created. It's rare to have someone so involved and understand what people can be capable of. A instructor/teacher who can understand, teach, and encourage is hard to run into yet I believe movement has...
Read moreI have climbed here solo and with a climbing partner. The gym itself is awesome. Staff is very courteous and nice. I didn’t use the workout area but it’s really pretty complete, you absolutely could cancel your traditional gym membership if you were a member here. Route setting is really really good in my opinion, and they set the routes frequently, at least at their other locations, I’ve only been to this one twice but I think their route setters work the all the gyms in the area on a rotation. The movement gyms’ routes always feel fresh with new challenges. I enjoy the thrill of really high walls, and while I don’t know their exact height, these feel quite tall. The bouldering area doesn’t seem quite as big as the Plano location but still very good. My one and only complaint for this location is the lack of auto-belays. It surely has to be some kind of insurance thing because other Movement locations (such as Plano) have them. I’ve seen other reviews citing the lack of auto-belays, and heard other climbers complain about their absence, so surely they know people want them at this location. That’s why I suspect there must be some other reason preventing them. That’s why I have put 4/5 instead of a 5/5 stars. Regardless, I’d still highly recommend this gym, particularly if you a climbing partner to belay for you. Movement gyms on the whole are 5/5 and...
