ā One Star ā Deeply Disappointed and Disturbed by My Experience
I had an extremely upsetting experience at the Ulta Salon in Addison (Beltline Rd location) and feel compelled to share in hopes of preventing others from going through the same.
I was referred to J---- for a full highlight, but upon arrival she pushed a ācolor correctionā service, assuring me it would be more cost-effective at $45/hour. Trusting her advice, I agreed ā and sat in that chair for five hours, which was just the beginning of a nightmare.
š¹ I explicitly asked for no more than a ½ inch trim, yet she cut off about four inches without my consent. š¹ She upsold me a $69 āconditioning treatmentā ā without disclosing it was a keratin treatment or that I wouldnāt be able to wash my hair for 3 days. š¹ During the wash, my entire shirt and pants were soaked, leaving me completely uncomfortable. š¹ The treatment caused severe eye irritation, and all I was given was a wet washcloth. No warning, no real help. š¹ J---'s technique was harsh and painful. I told her multiple times it was hurting, but she continued aggressively brushing and pulling at my hair. š¹ To make matters worse, J---- and several other stylists spoke in Spanish throughout the appointment, which made me feel excluded and uneasy during an already stressful situation.
I walked out with:
Damaged, uneven hair and missing inches I never approved
A $229 bill I wasnāt prepared for
Painful eye irritation that now requires medical attention and loss of hair due to a scalp infection
And most importantly, a look that has me mortified to speak at a major business presentation I have in Philadelphia that week
This experience didnāt just ruin my hair ā it affected my health, confidence, and professional presence. Iām shocked that Ulta would allow someone so careless and unprofessional to represent their brand.
Iāve reached out to Ulta, and it took three days to respond. They offered a refund, nothing more. Furthermore, I went in there today, and J---- is still employed there. It is obvious that they not only condone this behavior and dangerous service, but they are also unwilling to address my concerns. After picture and before picture below on the same day.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe blatant disrespect and obvious profiling here is ridiculous. My partner and I came in to purchase a few things as we are currently in town for an event. After we go the restroom we start looking around at the hair tools to see if they have a buttercup travel dryer. They do not so we move to the press on nails to see if they have a discontinued set I found the day prior at highland park. Once we find them my partner shows me a few more he thinks I may like and the problems begin.
I start scanning the barcodes of any I like in the app to see if they are clearenced or not. We probably did this for a good 20 minutes or more considering the department was a mess. In this time frame I noticed the same short red tinted Karen styled haircut women approaches me twice. I decline her help as we are merely just looking at the options that I can no longer get at home 1000 + miles away. When I decline her help I notice she sends over other sales girls to watch me. The most noticeable was the clearly nervous long brown haired girl in a black dress on the other end of the aisle watching me go through the nails. With being an ex ulta employee itās clear to me that I am being profiled as a thief. I start getting loud about this so the employees can hear me and are aware of that I know what they are doing. They continue to sporadically circle around to see if I need help after leaving me alone for longer periods of time.
The entire experience of this location has shown me why leaving Ulta was a great decision. The customer care is no longer there. The most welcoming employee was the security guard by the door. No one treated me with any respect or dignity until my Diamond Status was pulled up. At that point I had already made up my mind that the stores trash service was not worth anymore of my money. I will try another location tomorrow as the manager at this one needs a reality check on how to treat customers and employees. If an employee is uncomfortable performing a task such as profiling you do not assign them that task. Itās clear how little they care about their store. Ā Ā Ā Read moreI saw Stephanie on Thursday 12/12/19 for a hair and makeup appointment. She is SO amazing! I had a loose idea of what I wanted for my formal christmas party and she went above and beyond what I was imagining! I got so many compliments all night! Everyone said they loved my hair or that I looked beautiful and it gave me a much needed confidence boost. NO ONE could tell they were clip-ins! My hair looked so beautiful and it stayed put from 2pm to midnight when I (sadly) had to undo it before bed! She was very professional the entire time but also kept a good flow of conversation and I greatly enjoyed not only Stephanie, but the other Ulta employees that were working around us! Everyone was so nice! With the makeup she seemed to read my mind on exactly what I wanted and I completely put my trust in her to do her thing and just make me pretty. I was not disappointed! She gave me a few tips on how to apply my makeup and I ended up buying quite a few things after seeing how nice it looked on me! To the Ulta employees: From the two women who helped me with deciding on which tape-Ins to get (and were quite hilarious when doing so) to the man who did the consultation with me and helped me iron out exactly what I wanted to do to Stephanie who helped me feel confident and beautiful on my special night out and the other women who āoohād and aahādā as they walked by I thank all of you for loving what you do and showing that through your work with me and other clients.
