Horrible shopping experience! Most of the employees had earbuds in their ears, which tuned them out to being aware of customers such as myself who may have needed assistance. I don't know what the deal is with all kinds stores (not just Walmart) letting customer facing employees wear headphones in the Philadelphia area -- I've witnessed it at several stores -- it's just flat out appalling and unacceptable that this would be tolerated by management! Are standards of customer service lower in the Philadelphia area? Is there a shortage of employable candidates that stores just scrape the bottom of the barrel and take whatever they can get?
Anyway, I was trying to get prices on things that did not have price labels on the shelf. Going through the store, I noticed that the lack of price labels on the shelves was an issue. One of the absolute basics of retail is to have all merchandise priced, and the Collingdale Walmart couldn't even do that, so it was up to me to find out the price. I had to flail my arms to three different associates aimlessly wandering around and lost in their music -- two flat-out ignored me and a third sauntered over, not hiding her irritation. After hitting pause on her phone and taking out her earbuds -- literally right in front of me -- I had to be the one to speak first by asking her to price three items lacking a price tag. She didn't even greet me or ask what I needed, and after I asked her to scan the items to get the price, she just curtly remarked "stay here" and wandered off somewhere. I waited five minutes before she came back -- upon her return, she just pointed ambiguously to where the price check station might be and told me to go use the price check. Her conduct was inexcusable (never did find the price check, by the way).
It gets worse when I'm accosted by not one, but THREE different salespeople -- one from Xfinity, another from a public utility and one some other company -- standing no more than five feet apart from each other. After clearly stating that "I'm from out of state on business and not interested" to the first salesperson , the next (the electric company) tries to give me HIS sales pitch -- and he clearly had to have heard me. I'm like, "I can't even buy your product. My residence is almost three thousand miles away! Did you hear what I told the last guy? I'm on business here!". That didn't stop the last one from trying to engage with me.
After making it past the pushy salespeople and store associates doing a group hug in the main aisle (instead of WORKING), I get to the checkout. TWO checkouts open. I counted three associates milling around the front instead of hopping onto a register. Waited twenty minutes in line just to buy TWO items that I had to wait to get assistance with due to apathetic and lazy store associates.
After being here a few months, it is becoming more apparent to me that in general, the level of customer service at different stores and restaurants in the Philadelphia area is horribly deficient and completed unacceptable. I've never seen so many employees be allowed to conduct themselves the way they do here. I was a former store manager of a big box store and the actions I experience as a customer would have gotten these employees on a final-warning write-up and sent home the first offense, and fired on the second offense. What is going on? Why are the standards set so low that it falls below even the typical Walmart's standards? The lack of customer service there makes the Walmart of my hometown like a Nordstrom's in comparison!
I think a visit from Bentonville...
Read moreI've always been a fan of Walmart as a child and now as an adult. Some Walmarts are busier than others. But for the most part. All of them provide great product, great staff and good comfortable shopping. The Walmart on Macdade Boulevard in Delaware County provides all of the above I mentioned but their staff even the ones not seen in this photo provide even more than that. I would rate this Walmart as exceptional because the staff alone goes above and beyond. And it's every time I go there. If not for myself I actually see a staff member doing something above and beyond. Even the young lady that pushes that huge mop broom around collecting spills or debris. They all do their job with pride and a since of urgency seeming like so they can get to the next customer or situation. I feel bad because I dont remember the Walmart super employee that assisted me with purchasing a bike for my son to travel back and forth to work. I think his name was Pat. I frantically went to the bike department asking for assistance from a Walmart staff member i saw walking around. She immediately went and got Pat who came from the back storage room listening to me ask him if he could take the wheels off of a bike so I can fit it inside my way to small vehicle to transport the bike only 10 blocks away. Pat allowed me to look over the bike. He explained features and price. He then walked me to the register himself and then assisted taking it to my car. Before determining we could put the top down on my vehicle. Pat really did try evey angle. But then he got it inside. A few onlookers and myself were skeptical not thinking he could. But Pat(if that's his name) was extremely patient and skilled. I also tried to add a nice tip inside his Walmart smock. But he jumped back saying its against the Walmart company policy to accept tips. I understand and gave the Salvation Army Santa standing outside of Walmart doors the tip and I told Pat its from him. That morning. And it was before 8am in the morning. I remember being desperate for good help,a good bike price and fast service because my son relies on a bike to go to work 6 days a week. That early in the morning. Pat and the Walmart staff provided me with exceptional service from the time I walked in the door until he safely watched me pull off of the Walmart parking lot. Pat also suggested I purchase the warranty on the bike and he specifically told me if the bike has any issues. Call the store and ask for him or bring the bike back. He explained why the warranty purchase was important as well. So I learned a few things from Pat as well. The world would be so much better if we had staff like the staff inside Walmart on Macdade Boulevard in Delaware County,my preferred choice of...
Read moreTo whom this may concern My name is Brittany treadway and this goes out to the Walmart Customer Service team , I am writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction regarding a serious issue I encountered with a product purchased at your Glenolden, PA location on October 21. After a couple of days of anticipation, my family and I finally opened the package of Pumpkin Cake Bites on October 23. To our utter horror, upon taking our first bites, we discovered large shards and chunks of black crystal embedded in the cake bites. The presence of these foreign objects raised immediate concerns for our safety. Thank goodness we were cautious and chewed slowly, as this prevented any potential injuries or health complications. Had we not been vigilant, the consequences could have been dire, including internal bleeding or an allergic reaction. I promptly contacted customer service on the same day at 4:37 PM and conveyed my frightening experience. I was assured that the matter would be escalated to the district manager, Sal, at the Glenolden location. Following that call, I attempted to reach out to the store directly to discuss this with him further. Unfortunately, my experience with the store operator was far from satisfactory. She displayed a dismissive attitude, refused to provide information about the manager's availability, but only stated he isnt in and ultimately hung up on me after spelling the manager's name with clear disdain. This level of service is not what I expect from a company of Walmart's stature. Not only was I met with a dangerous product, but the lack of concern and professionalism exhibited by your staff adds insult to injury. As a loyal customer, I am genuinely distressed by how this situation has been handled. Given the potential health risks and the poor customer service I received, I am left with no choice but to reconsider my loyalty to Walmart. I feel inclined to share this experience with my friends and family, warning them against shopping at Walmart, especially at the Glenolden location. I am also contemplating taking legal action to address this serious matter, as my family's health is paramount. I urge you to investigate this incident thoroughly and provide an appropriate response addressing the serious concerns I've raised. It is my hope that no other customers must endure such a terrifying experience....
