I was actually originally craving a burrito and went across the street to a chain restaurant only because I know that they're veggie burritos are relatively consistent and better than just rice and beans cheese and sour cream lettuce and pico de gallo. However when I got there they were 15 minutes behind because of a catering order, so I decided to go across the street to try Nick's restaurant as I do love things like falafel and hummus and fresh veggies. I ordered a veggie gyro sandwich with the addition of falafel. There was literally no one else in the restaurant, and I sat there waiting for 20 minutes. I could tell that they were doing staff and team training in the kitchen and because I come from the restaurant industry and understand it's challenges I was giving them a lot of leeway for their failure in this matter. However after 20 minutes of waiting a team member comes up to me to tell me that the kitchen has notified them that they actually do not have the veggies and would I be okay with Just falafel. Had they said this after 5 minutes I would have been okay, but considering I had been standing there for nearly 20 minutes, this was too much for me to accept. The young woman who told me of the problem was incredibly apologetic and very nice so she is an individual gets three stars. As someone who comes from the restaurant industry and who has managed, consulted, and owned my own restaurants there are two things they could have done which would have changed my one star to a three if not four star. 1) kitchen should have notified the front of the house team members much more quickly that there is an issue with the vegetables. 2) the wonderful young woman who came out to let me know about the issue and was so kind and apologetic, if she had offered to refund me my money because of their mistakes as well as to offer me a falafel sandwich without the veggies just as a way of acknowledging their mistakes, it would have cost them very little and it would have turned me into a loyal customer, and turn this into a three to four star review depending on how good the sandwich was. Clearly this business has a long way to go before they are staffed at the level they need to run a successful restaurant. I truly wish them all the best, and I know that if they have any hope of succeeding in one of the hardest businesses there is, they're going to have to completely transform the way staff are trained as well as empowered to help solve problems...
Read moreSummary: good value and delicious eats, if you like Mediterranean food at all, you should check this place out!
Food: I've ordered the gyro bowl, burger, plate, and pita wrap so far. They have all been pretty great and the Greek and Nick's Fries are excellent additions. The burger was definitely a little less lackluster than the other food items, but I was very satisfied with everything. The food tastes exactly as you would expect Greek food to taste (tzatziki sauce/yogurt based sauces, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onions, garlic, and your meat of choice). The flavors are strong and for the most part the food is cooked very well, again, my only complaint was the burger was a little dry and didn't have as much going on as the other food items I've ordered.
Value: the price for food ranges about 11.95 to 14.95 depending on the sides/additions you order. Definitely worth it considering the food size, each dish can easily be split into two meals or a single very filling meal (for reference, I'm about 190 pounds). If you're a fan of fries, I highly suggest getting the fries add-on.
Service: you order at the front and pick up your food. I haven't eaten in-store yet, but all my interactions with staff have been pleasant.
THE YOGURT: If you like frozen desserts, the Frozen Greek Yogurt with Baclava and Honey is AMAZING. Both times I've eaten here I have ordered it and I love it - it's not too sweet (more tangy) and the combination of the yogurt with the baclava and honey is spot on, I would come here just for...
Read moreI know there was some excitement as this place opened in Davis. My experience has been with door dash so far.
Beef/Lamb pita- the meat was good. Soft, moist and flavorful. The pita itself was warm and soft unlike some other places. There’s fries, tzatziki sauce, tomatoes and onions. I wished they had other ingredients without charging extra. It needed a crunchy element to it as it’s all a little too moist and soggy. The fries were disappointing.
Greek fries- it’s their fries with feta cheese, garlic, and green onions. I was excited to see if their fries were as good as I’ve heard but they were not crispy at all. They were soggy and unappetizing. The toppings were the only part redeeming this side
Avgolemono soup-lemon, chicken, orzo or rice, with fresh eggs. I was curious since I love soup. It was lemony and had chicken. I’m not sure where the egg or orzo/rice was. Yet, it came piping hot and still comforting on the cold day.
Hummus/pita- side dish. The pita was warm and delicious. The hummus was not bad but a bit dry and chunky for my personal liking. I think it was pricey for what it was.
Note to the reply from the owner: I’ve ordered twice from door dash thus far and they were both quick from ordering to delivery so I don’t think it was necessarily the fault of transit. I think it’s actually how the fries are. It would take the same time as if I ordered there and took it home. I might try to order well done or crispy next time if I ever come in but I’ve had this from other locations and it...
