This church is located in the historic West Settlers district in Delray Beach. The church was founded in 1896 by pastor N. B. Williams making it one of the oldest black Baptist churches in the area. As the congregation grew a worship building that could seat 200 people was built. Unfortunately it was destroyed in the 1928 hurricane that devastated most of Palm Beach county. Through the hard work of the congregation a 400 seat worship building was constructed in 1929. Through the years improvements were made a land was purchased for a parking lot.
Eighteen pastors have helmed the church since its inception. Current pastor Lenard C. Johnson has been serving the church since 1982. Under his leadership the sanctuary now has seating for 1,000 people. A 1. 2 million dollar 50,000 square foot addition on the south side of the church was added to serve as offices, a day care, senior center, and Christian school. This church is a very important part of this community. There is a display marking it's historical significance in B. F James and F. J. Bright Park on 5th Street.
