We chose Rocksteady for our anniversary dinner, and initially, the service was excellent. We ordered drinks and appetizers; while the drinks were enjoyable, the wedge salad and oysters were bland. Wedge was head of lettuce with what looked like onions and tomato's were thrown on the plate with the slightest drizzle of dressing. Oyster Rockefeller were the tiniest oysters mixed with what seemed to be their creamed spinach, on top of a literal pile of salt. They were awful. Mouthful of creamed Spinach and salt.
Quite some time after we ordered our steaks, the waitress informed us that the chef overcooked the steaks, and new ones would be out soon. After nearly 20 minutes, the steaks arrived but were completely raw. Mind you, there were a totally of 5 patrons in the restaurant at this time. Two tables, so it wasn't like they were in the weeds) We sent them back as the sides were served. The green beans tasted like they came from a microwaveable bag—no seasoning whatsoever—and the mashed potatoes were the only redeeming part of the meal.
When the steaks returned, they were still undercooked. Although the waitress apologized, the only compensation was $12 off for the potatoes. We barely touched the steaks, and the total bill was $315—far more than we would have spent for a better meal at home.
I don’t usually leave reviews, but this experience warranted it. As we finished up, we overheard the other table expressing their disappointment as well. Given its current state, I doubt this restaurant will last long. It was hands down the worst meal at a steakhouse I have ever...
Read moreThe entire experience was really a disappointment starting with the process to make a reservation. I called and was told they couldn't accept reservations by phone but only through Open Table. I told her Open Table doesn't allow more than 6 and she told me I had to call back once I book and she would adjust it. Seems ridiculously ineffectient. The only reason I agreed to book is we intended to see a comedy show down the block so this was the only restaurant in proximity. The show was at 7:30. We arrived with our party of 8 at 5:52 for our 6:00 reservation. Two hours later we were just getting served our meal which was underwhelming considering the steep prices (which is odd given there is one one dollar sign indicating on Google so totally misleading). I ordered sea bass and for $52 I think my 15 year old son could have prepared this better. It was basically an undercooked salted piece of fish with bones still in it. All the sides were a la carte. Vegetables were greasy and overcooked. I had to ask the wait staff multiple times for updates on when we would be able to close out or tab because now at 8:40 we had missed another option for the show. The bathroom also smelled musty and the lighting inside made it impossible to read anything on the menu without using your phone flashlight. On top of that they kept the inside temp around 64 degrees so we spent most of the time freezing. Awful experience overall and would definitely...
Read moreWas really looking forward to trying this place out. Saw all the restrictions about attire and dress code and guessed this place was as dialed in for food and service. We decided to dine at the bar as there was only one other table dining at 7pm ( first red flag ) Our bartender/ server was sweet and training for her new job. We started with the grilled octopus. First thing is the dish looked absolutely nothing like the photo. I’ve never seen octopus with no color and without small cups on tentacles 🐙. It looked and tasted so bland and manufactured. The tomatoes cut and served with it looked like they were cut with a spoon. We next had a bib lettuce salad with craisins and walnuts. The lettuce was fresh and very good. The salad was as good but nothing memorable. Sadly, the entree - we ordered the Australian wagyu 16oz ribeye ( $150) This tasted like it was slacked out in a warm water bath after being found in the freezer. Our sides were good ( potato gratin, green beans and mushrooms) thankfully the chef sent out a side of mashed potatoes as a gift from the kitchen. I’d love to see a place like this make it here but sadly I can’t see that happening. The Avenue was super busy as usual and this place had 7 covers for the evening. Tough walking away from a $500 dinner ( with wine) and feeling like...
