I had one of the most shocking and disappointing experiences at Clear Color on September 20, 2024. As the owner of Perfect Population, an international fashion brand, I came to this store with the intent to shop for accessories for my business. My visit earlier in the week had been great—the sales associate was extremely helpful, verified my business information, and explained the $100 minimum for wholesale purchases. Everything was clear and professional.
However, today’s visit was a completely different and deeply unsettling experience. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was being watched and treated with suspicion, as if I was doing something wrong simply by shopping. The owner of the store, in particular, made me feel targeted and discriminated against. At one point, he whispered to the sales associate while I was browsing, giving off the impression that they thought I might be stealing. This level of disrespect was not only unprofessional but completely unwarranted.
When I politely explained that I understood the store’s $100 minimum policy and that my account would be established at checkout, the owner decided to confront me with a “2-person minimum account” rule. I explained that it was just me and my business partner shopping, and that the third person with us was simply a friend visiting from out of town. Instead of addressing this in a professional manner, the owner made an inappropriate comment about “letting it slide this time,” as though he was doing me a favor for allowing me to shop at his store.
As someone who was preparing to spend a significant amount of money, this was incredibly offensive and anxiety-inducing. It’s clear that this wasn’t just about policy—it felt like I was being profiled and discriminated against because of who I am. This level of treatment is unacceptable, especially in a professional setting where I should be treated with respect and dignity, not suspicion and condescension.
I came to this store with two celebrity hairstylists who work in high-end salons in New York, and as an international fashion designer, I will never recommend this store to anyone in my industry. What should have been a simple business transaction turned into an extremely disheartening and hurtful experience.

Read moreIn late Feb 2025, I was killing time with my mother and wife while waiting for a show to start. While my wife did some shopping at a nearby store, my mother and I entered Greater Goods to browse and perhaps shop, not understanding that it was a wholesaler. The environment was pleasant - my mother, who like me is white, was asked if she needed any assistance by a courteous employee. We browsed together for about 5-10 minutes uninterrupted. Then my wife, who is black, entered the store. I started talking to her at the front door to show her a hat I thought I might buy her. Our conversation was immediately interrupted by one of the store employees - which began a chain of conversation with the intent to determine whether my wife was a business owner, and therefore eligible to make purchases wholesale. When it was established that she was not, she was refused entrance to the store. My wife left immediately without complaint. I, still standing right next to her, was not asked to leave. My mother, still browsing, was also not asked to leave (though we immediately did).
I understand now that this is a wholesale shop and they cannot offer service to non-business owners. That is not the problem. The problem is that wealthy-looking white people are warmly invited to stay and encouraged to browse, while the apparent policy is that black women must be accosted at the door so urgently as to interrupt an ongoing conversation. This is not the first review suggesting some racist overtones from this establishment. I am utterly disgusted and am therefore leaving my first 1-star review of my life....

The new owner is incredibly friendly and made me feel right at home. It’s clear they truly care about creating a positive shopping experience.
The team was also incredibly helpful—everyone was knowledgeable and eager to assist with any questions I had. I was so impressed by the customer service and the overall vibe of the store. The new inventory is fantastic, and I can’t wait to see what they bring in next!
