Dollar Tree — Local services in Dundee Township

My recent visit to Dollar Tree was nothing short of appalling due to the behavior of a cashier named Christine. While waiting in line at the checkout, I placed my hand basket with the items I planned to purchase on the counter. As I glanced around and it was nearly my turn, Christine barked, “Take the items out of the basket.” There was no courtesy, no professionalism—just a rude and demanding tone from the start.

I began removing items as asked, but when I paused briefly, Christine abruptly stopped the checkout process. When I asked if it wasn’t part of her job to scan the items, she escalated the situation by calling someone named Anne and falsely claimed that I was “refusing” to take the items out of the basket. That was a complete misrepresentation—I was complying with her instructions.

I then politely asked Christine for her name, as she wasn’t wearing a name tag. She refused to tell me, which only added to the hostility and lack of accountability. Instead of conducting herself with any level of professionalism, she smirked and turned to the next customer in line, saying mockingly, “I want to be mean today.”

That kind of behavior is disgraceful and unacceptable in any customer service environment. Christine was not only rude and unhelpful—she was openly mocking and confrontational. Her actions created an uncomfortable and humiliating situation over something as simple as unloading a basket.

If Dollar Tree allows this kind of conduct to go unchecked, they risk losing loyal customers. I urge management to seriously address this incident and retrain or reevaluate staff who think it’s acceptable to treat people this way. Store manager is so rude and unproffesional. He's so disrepectful to cashiers. I once went there as soon as they opened, when I was paying, I asked for cash back and the cashier said it was fine but then remembered they don't do cash back the first hour of the day. I said that it was ok and that they should cancel the transaction. The cashier said that it was no big deal and was really nice about it and asked the manager if he had cash for cash back. He yelled at her from his office and said they don't do cash back in the mornings, he said, "It's common sense." I felt so bad for the cashier and I apologized to her for getting her in trouble and she said to not worry. We're all human and we all make mistakes every now and then, no need to be rude about it. Today, I walked in to get two things and noticed there was a long line at the register. Another employee opened one more register and asked for the next costumer to step over. The two people in front of me didn't move so I went over to the new lane. The cashier rudely said, "Are you the next customer in line? I'm only helping the next customer in line." I only had two things! And if the next customer didn't want to move over why decline helping the customer that do! I had to tell the two customer ahead of me to step over to the new register and they had a lot of stuff to pay for. I had never experience that in other stores. Everything was great at this location until I went to check out. 2 of the service lights were on, so I assumed it was would be quick. Turns out an employee named kelsey had left her post and left her light on. Seen an older lady walk up to the empty lane and she received demoralizing behavior from Kelsey. Kelsey said Mrs the lane is closed. The older lady responded but the light is on and typically that means you're open in this lane. Kelsey responded back rudely, well clearly you can see there is nobody working that lane go to lane 3. She then turns and laughs and rolls her eyes and shakes her head at what just happened with the older lady. Clearly Kelsey doesn't know what customer service is because what she did was wrong. She then starts talking about the older lady and that's when I had enough . I stated clearly and calmly have some respect. Kelsey being rude says who me have respect and I said yeah have some respect the lady is right here. I think that's when she realized wow I was called out for disrespecting an elderly lady. Show some class Dollar General and do something about Kelsey. Sharon the older cashier was very polite and courteous probably because she was older and knew what Kelsey did was wrong.
