Joel Byars was asked to be a part of a fundraising event for the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation and without hesitation, took it to a whole different level. He planned an entire night where a little boy who previously battled cancer and dreamed of becoming a stand up comedian, up on stage at an open mic night venue and created a night that neither he, the little boy or the audience, could forget. He then came to the event itself and again, blew the crowd away with his incredible kindness and clean, yet hilarious jokes!. Joel knows exactly what jokes would go best with which audience and he uses that as one of his many tools in his belt. 10/10 would recommend this professional to anyone looking to enjoy themselves and laugh...

One of my biggest takeaways is to ask the booker to send you their content guidelines in writing. Simple idea, but I was always afraid of coming off looking like an amateur, but now I realize that quite the opposite is true. I also enjoyed the second half of the class where we each did a three-minute bit and got three minutes of feedback from Joel and the other members of the class, which is limited to 10 participants, which is the perfect size. Read moreI saw Joel Byars at NC last Saturday night and he was amazing. Short recap from a new comic - He riffed on the room and people in the crowd, then went into his material, call backs, more crowd interaction, paused to flex his 'in the moment comedy' observations, jokes about keeping people out to late (I was the agree with comedy shows should be at Noon guy, btw), jokes about stopping his set (so we could go home), but then jumping back into more great material. It seemed effortless, off the cuff, but well honed. I could go on and on, but it was amazing to see.
