My husband and I went to Color Me Mine to create pieces as mementos for our 2nd wedding anniversary. We love the serving plates each of us now has and it was a pleasant 3 hours painting together. We were able to have our son in his car seat at the table with us munching on snacks and no one minded. It’s also almost all windows in their building which made for a fabulously bright and happy environment. If I had never been to color me mine before I probably would’ve given 5 stars, however I visited the Rochester location 4 years ago and in comparison I was slightly disappointed with the experience. Namely with instructions given and interaction with staff. The only instructions we were given were “here is the paint, this is what 1 and 3 coats look like, here’s the detail bottles and here are the brushes for splattering if you want.” When I went to Rochester the staff took her time to explain several tips and explain the process. My husband and I felt kinda lost in the process. Can we mix paint colors? Can I use a pencil to outline my idea before I try painting it? Can we do more than 3 layers? The other negative note I had was hearing the staff unpacking new products and discussing them. They were looking at a witches hat and discussing how there was a flaw on the inside but if the customer only painted the outside they would never know. This slightly concerned me as it didn’t even occur to me to check my piece before painting as I assumed if I was paying $40 for a plate it wasn’t flawed. Obviously for some people it’s not about just how it looks but if it will last for time, a crack inside would make it way less likely to survive if my toddler knocks it on the floor. BUT like I said we left with pieces we love and we will treasure the memory of our 2nd anniversary together. I’d recommend visiting, although I would say look up painting tips prior so you aren’t confused and check pieces for flaws/cracks prior...
Read morePersonally I think this place is a bit over priced. We had an birthday there and the cost was unexpectedly high. The cost could have been much lower had I known a few things beforehand. Plus if I had known these things, I would have chosen a different place to hold my 6 year olds birthday. They need to do a birthday cheat sheet about what services they offer for birthdays so that you know going in that there needs to be three coats of paint on the sculpture, that if a child finishes early then they have coloring crayons or other games to keep them interested so that they don’t wander over and select another piece of artwork to start coloring. The person that was there to assist us was nice but was not present the whole time, like they said they would be. The space is very small and I felt like I was going to knock pieces off the shelves just going between the tables to help the kids. I do not recommend this for a little kid’s birthday. There just wasn’t enough to keep the kids occupied, there is breakable things in arms reach and though it was fun, with kids 6-7 they still need air of guidance to do...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went here on Halloween for our two year anniversary. There were a lot of spots to pick from and it was not overcrowded.
The staff that assisted us was very acknowledgeable and gave us advice on painting a piece. They showed us where all the paint was, forms we needed to fill out, and all the cool little stuff to put extra details on our piece.
Depending on the day of the week, there is a sit in charge fee of $10 per a person.
The pieces range in prices. So if you see a cool piece, just know that it will probably cost a lot. I asked if they ever let anyone bring an outside piece and pay for the fee and stuff, but they said they don’t. I think that would be pretty cool to do.
There was a booklet that gave me ideas on painting, the colors they used. They only had one book but they should definitely put more books out because it was sooo helpful!
Overall, my boyfriend and I spent about 2 and a half hours at the place, we spent in total around $60 for our visit. We had a lot of fun. The music was nice and enjoyable !
I recommend...
