We like to try new restaurants and after reading the reviews decided to give this place a try.
We were a little set back when we were dropped off at a strip mall tucked back with a restaurant there but we thought maybe it was a good find. We asked to be seated outside. The patio is very small but that is understandable being in a mall. The tables and chairs were not very comfortable (almost diner-ish) so we asked to move indoors.
The decor is funky inside with a mosh-posh of items. The TVs threw us off with having an old winter NFL game on one, another was a black & white movie and lastly a sitcom. Not sure what they were going for?
It was a Saturday night and they weren't particularly busy. Our server was attentive, amusing and friendly. He offered up his suggestions and we order a few items as apps. The Grilled Peach & Burrata salad was just okay as were the french fries w/bearnaise sauce. The Vietnamese Pork Belly was the best with nice flavors and not too fatty.
For entrees we ordered the Chilean Sea Bass (miso glazed), Steak Bavette, Filet Mignon Sandwich, Cauliflower Burnt Ends & Root Roasted Vegetables. I eat A LOT of sea bass and might be a little picky but I would definately not order that again. The others at the table tried it & agreed with me. I would not call it miso glazed. It was more of a runny sauce. I don't recommend the cauliflower mash, get the rice instead. The Filet Mignon Sandwich was good. The Steak Bavette was over-cooked and a bit tough but had some flavor. The root vegetables were lacking seasoning and we just weren't a fan of the BBQ flavor on the cauliflower (the menu did state this but we wanted to try it anyway).
We did not complain and ate our food. Sometimes when you try a new place, it just isn't your thing. It doesn't mean it won't be someone else's spot.
I do not, however, agree with places that have servers take payment at the table, put your CC in a handheld and then turn the device around and watch you enter the tip (which by the way starts at 20%). I am a great tipper and I eat out a lot. I do tip per my experience as I believe is just. I prefer a paper recceipt so if something is wrong & can let management know the tip reflects either the service or the food..different issues. I just think it's poor taste to have the server overlooking the...
Read moreFirst visit. Walked in and loved the ambience right away. We were there at 1:30 on a Sunday for brunch.
Service was great. Hostess (woman who is a friend of the owners) was great. Making suggestions and overall great spirit.
Also our Server Alex was good. He was attentive and took good care of us.
Food however wasn’t all great.
Ordered dry rub wings to start, they were perfect! The seasoning so good. Nice combination of spices and sugar and prepared exactly right. Made us excited for what else was coming….
However, the Avocado Benedict was disappointing. Would have preferred simple sliced or sauted avocado. Instead it was an overly seasoned guacamole inspired spread that took over the whole dish. And the English muffin was completely soggy. The hollandaise sauce could have toned down the avocado mess, but it was flavorless.
Also the side salad I chose had a lovely house dressing, but it’s glory was muddled with the pedestrian iceberg lettuce/red cabbage it was paired with. Should have been a spring mix. Also the iceberg didn’t seem super fresh.
My friend’s Chicken & Waffle combo was also disappointing. Too much work having to de-bone the chicken to eat it with the waffle. A boneless chicken breast, sautéed in a sweet glaze would have been more appropriate. Or a savory glaze to play up a sweet/savory pairing with the syrup.
My Old Fashioned was good. My friend had a drink, not sure what it was but she liked it. Looked like pink lemonade. We were a little disappointed that the first drinks we chose off the menu were not available due to a shift to a new seasonal cocktail menu coming in the next few days. Not a problem, but maybe mention that before or cross them out on the menu.
Overall, it was an okay meal, but I expected more based on Yelp reviews. If I’m in the area, I would consider going back for the wings, and check out dinner menu. But would choose to go...
Read moreWe had family come from out of town to come try this place that came highly recommended. The food was good that we were able to get. And that is where the problem began. For background, we originally had a reservation for 6pm but had something come up, so we called a week ahead to see if we could come at 645pm. We talked to someone who said they were the front of the house manager and they said we could come at 640 and they would put a note on our reservation. We arrived at 640 and by 708pm we were told it was last call for drinks. We asked if that meant we couldn't get dessert at the end of our meal and they said no, unless you just want the cheesecake. We ordered drinks and got our food. At 750pm we were finishing our food and wine. Someone came up to us and said we needed to be done because the staff was ready to go home. We looked at the table beside us and we both shrugged our shoulders and said "well I guess that means we need to go home". We waited for our check from our server (who was wonderful) and paid and then went home. It was the most off putting experience I have ever had at a restaurant. It felt like the second we walked in they just wanted our money and for us to leave as fast as possible. I wanted to walk out 3 times from the way we were talked to by staff other than our server. We were looking for a nice relaxing dinner with family for the holidays. We will not be coming back for anything unless we are in a hurry. We understand everyone wants to get home to their families, especially for the holidays. All of us worked in the restaurant business at different levels for many years. And would never treat customers this way despite wanting to get home after our shift. I hope no one else has an experience like this and we...
