I was just racially profiled during a return at this ROSS!!! I am a 46 year old black woman and surprisingly this has never happened to me.... Until now!!!
I spent $100 a few weeks ago on items I intended to wear on a date. I did not wear 3 of the items, so I returned them just now. $73 and some change worth of returns. I was told because it was over $50, the return had to be approved. That's fine. Once her manager came over, the manager said the description on the tag didn't match the item. I bought a sweater, and it said jacket. The sweater was $24.99.
I informed the manager that was the same tag scanned a few weeks ago when I purchased it, so what's the issue now? She reiterated the description not matching was the issue, so she had to get HER manager.
The manager's manager came with 3 loss prevention personnel. After hushed discussions for approximately 5 minutes, it was decided that the cameras needed to be reviewed to ensure I had not switched the tags!!
I explained to them I bought these items a few weeks ago and literally just entered the store to return them. So... What's the point of reviewing cameras?! I'm standing in the front of the store, with 5 people questioning me. I am the only black person in the store.... And of course everyone is gawking as they took another 5 - 10 minutes to review the cameras!!
Finally once nothing was found on the cameras, they apologized and refunded my money. They assured me this all was appropriate and necessary as the descriptions didn't match. I told them it's absurd that their mistake of inappropriately tagging an item required me to be treated like a criminal.
I told them they might want to retag the garment appropriately to prevent this issue in the future. Of course they did not. Just stuck a sensor on it to return it to the floor.

Read moreIf I could give it no stars I would. It was very messy. Not organized. But it could be that its been busy due to the weekend and mothers day tomorrow. Also annoying that shoppers do not put up the items back in their original places, instead they leave their unwanted merchandise in different isles. Of course something that is impossible for us courteous customers to control.
