I have been coming here for a while. This very nice store is a non-profit, which you can tell from the layout of the store. When you walk in, you are greeted by the fresh, in season organic produce mainly from regional producers, rather than the potato chips and candy that would be the first thing you see in nearly any drug store or supermarket. You may be able to find some junk food if you go searching for it on the shelves off to the side, but probably you won't find anything much worse than granola.
The store is small but contains all necessities. They have the field day organics line of products and various other things. What I don't get here, I mainly get online on websites like amazon or vitacost.
Pricewise, the produce costs more for a smaller vegetable, but the vegetables are tastier and probably more nutritious, often tasting good raw or steamed without any seasoning. Even my cats like snacking on the sugar snap peas, kale, etc in between their meat meals. The staff are also very friendly and helpful - they clearly believe in the work they are doing.
You do in fact get 50% off with SNAP on produce (and, if available, everyone can get 50% off the produce that's discounted for being older, stacking to 75% if you get both), but not other products. This also applies to the frozen produce, which seems to mostly be the imported TJ brand of Chinese produce like they have at Dollar Tree or the wholesaler market, but they have some US frozen produce like frozen cranberries. If I spend $15-$20 post-discount on produce, I usually come away with what feels like a massive amount for the week, but also an amount I am happy to be eating. When I shop here, I definitely feel fuller and healthier while...
Read moreThe $30 boxes are worth it. Food lasted a 1 week to 14 days with no issues for x2 adults. The service there was incredibly attentive and worked with us on what vegetables was left and added additional vegetables when ran out of what was in stock to the box. Food was delicious. Update: Erica is amazing and was able to set me up with thr biweekly monthly program. Food I'd amazing and I feel I'm eating less due to the quality of the food. Whole Foods better watch out. These guys are amazing for those living in Northeast (20 minutes or so) or central areas near and in downtown El Paso Texas. This travel is closer for us. So much better than Albertson's when it comes to...
Read moreI love the idea and mission statement behind Desert Spoon! I recently discovered this little neighborhood shop. I was impressed with the orders of freshly homemade breads, the selection of local salsas, the organic produce, coffee, tea, and spice selections. I look forward to discovering more about the local farmers’ boxes available for pre-order or sign-up for various options. The service was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and open to...
