This store used to be amazing! I've left numerous reviews for other thrift stores telling them that they should look at this store to see what a thrift store SHOULD be.
After my visit on Monday, I've changed my mind.
Over the last year or two I have seen changes here that closely resembled what Goodwill is doing to ruin their stores for consumers and to maximize profit for the handful at the top that really benefit. It saddens me that one can no longer buy decent things for reasonable prices at this store.
The hard goods were a step above my local Goodwill. Instead of broken Dollar Tree items for $4.99, I found mostly Hobby Lobby type items for roughly half of sticker price. Anyone who shops that store knows the same items can be had for 50-90% off yah price, brand new. No one pays more than 60% with a coupon.
The baggies, normally my favorite section, were lotted together weirdly (a bar of soap, a kids toy and blank address labels...whaaa?) And many had multiple breakable items together. What happens when two breakable figurines are in a plastic bag together, knocking into each other? They break.
The shoes were priced ridiculously high. Shoes that looked (and smelled) like they were trashcan worthy were $7 or $8 but anything that still had life was $10+.
And ladies clothes? I was floored by a $31 cardigan by a maker I'd never heard of. The lowest price I saw was $5.99 and most of those were close to the end of their useful life - pilled, faded, missing buttons or seams coming undone. Anything usable was $7.99+. The same items new are $10.99+ at Ross, Marshalls or TJ Maxx. There were about 4 pieces I considered, but ultimately I chose to save the $40 and go to Ross for 3 brand new items instead.
I spent 45 minutes in the store and walked out empty-handed. Likely for the last time.
Savers, I used to love you, but you've caught the Goodwill greed bug. Your cost of goods is $0, so keeping the prices more reasonable would increase your volume of sales and keep your customers happy. You are losing sales....
Read moreI have been a frequent shopper and donater at Savers for almost 10 years. I often refer others and enjoy the great buys I have acquired here. Today I have decided to make it last on my list. I brought a friend shopping here last Sunday for clothing for job interview. Savers has removed all dressing rooms so we just tried to guess on how things fit. Well, that was a disaster as not one piece of clothing fit her. I told her no problem, I would rerun the items and obtain a refund and take her somewhere that had dressing rooms. I was informed that they would not refund the amount to my debit card as is the typical way to refund. I asked to see a manager and after explaining the situation was told that was the policy and I must go and spend what is on the receipt that day. I replied I did not want to shop this day and I didn't need anything and with no dressing rooms I didn't want to attempt it. He then told me I could easily spend my reimbursement in housewares. What part of I don't want to shop today do they not understand? The manager further explained that clothing and shoes were accepted up to 14 days from purchase with tags and receipt and that the value of the exchange is to be credited to "same day purchases". I feel these policies are very restrictive especially in the light of no ability to try on clothing. They would allow me to use credit later this week but I had to do so by Sunday, so I have 2 days to find something, anything, no pressure here! I will also point out that this is the only retail store in this area that requires masking upon entrance. I am very dssatisfied and will be taking my business elsewhere and will no longer be referring family and friends...
Read moreDisappointing visit to this location as Savers in other cities were always friendly. No one spoke to us even to just say "Hi" even with several mgr looking types in lime green polo shirts standing around talking. We walked by them several times & not once were we greeted, smiled at, nor acknowledged in any way. Something seems wrong when a company is closing locations (St Charles MO) & one of the two remaining locations in the STL area are not greeting their customers.Their pricing is inconsistent w/ discount brands priced the same as moderate to higher end apparel lines. Several shoes had dirt caked on the soles & over-priced ($29.99) for a used pair of sneakers! At checkout, if you want a bag to carry a purchase out....you have to now pay for one. An idea no doubt taken from Aldi's. While eliminating plastic is great & commendable for the environment...it somehow seems off to charge a customer for a paper bag... as this is a "FOR PROFIT" thrift store company, you can bet that bag policy change is also about saving a large store expense to create more revenue (profit) for their bottom line. Overall, unfortunately, we were not impressed. At least have someone greet customers, or better yet... it only takes a second for a mgr to set a good example! And that does not...
