Bert's Surf Shop — Local services in Emerald Isle

We like to visit local surf shops when we go to the beach for a few stickers for the Jeep and a couple of t-shirts. I stopped by Bert's on my way out of Emerald Isle and was a little before opening. I was greeted at the door with a woman telling me somewhat rudely that they didn't open until 10:00 and to come back. I did come back for some stickers and shirts and tried to strike up some small talk with the woman there while I was browsing. I was brushed off repeatedly. An older couple in their 60's walked in, and she was more than happy to ask about their trip, where they are staying, etc. Maybe she didn't like my tattoos, or she thought I didn't have money, who knows, but she was rude. My suggestion... Learn who your audience is for a surf and skate shop. It's NOT 65 year old couples. I put the stickers for Bert's on the Jeep, but it will remind me of the only bad experience I've ever had in Emerald Isle. The "have a blessed day" she threw out as I was leaving was nothing but a platitude. If you dont mean it, dont say it. If I were the owner, I'd get rid of this manager immediately. I'm gonna try to be fair here. Visited this location yesterday 10/01/2025. They had an awesome deal on short sleeve Berts t-shirts. The inside was clean and well organized. I really liked the board selection. Alot of funshapes and longboards. Pretty good selection of cruiser style skateboards. The bad: the young lady at the front(around 5 p.m.) couldn't be bothered to look up from her phone when we entered and walked past the front. Further, when we checked out her demeanor would best be described as dismissive and annoyed. MAYBE service is better during "the season ". If that's the case, I would advise visiting another store until "the season" is here and the service...

Went to exchange shorts for a size up and charged another $11. When asked the clerk why and explained that I had never paid more for the same item in a different size (ex: s, m, l,...8, 10, 12..(not extra large sizes) Apparently the two young girls (clerks) thought it was funny and started laughing! Nothing funny, just very frustrating and disappointing Would not recommend! These were the exact same brand, color , and pattern fabric...only first one was 29 waist and 2nd was 31 waist.
