I used to love to workout at this recreation center until some members of staff started making insensitive, rude and disrespectful remarks toward me. It was a conglomeration of events that caused me to stop going there. I started feeling anxious about who was gonna be there and how they were gonna treat me. I was always so happy to see Gina and Shirley.
Paul has a difficult time filtering what he says. It just seems like he says the first thing that comes to his mind without taking my feelings into consideration. He is very nosy about my personal life and kept pushing me to buy a year membership when I didnât want to and quite frankly, I couldnât afford it at that time because of an injury that happened to me. I went through my savings and I just couldnât afford it and I didnât feel like I needed to give him an explaination and he just kept pushing me to buy it. Something that weighed about 100 pounds landed on my head and I was out of work for months and part of my recovery for that was a membership to that rec, even though I had been a member previously. He caused me to feel very uncomfortable and is a part of the reason why I donât go there any more, and I went there for two years. A lady gave me a compliment about how I looked and he was envious and made it a point to say, âwhat about me, I work out too and flexed one of his bicep muscles.â One day he asked me how I was and I said, âbetter than a sharp stick in the eyeâ and he response was, âoh so that means not so goodâ and that is not what I meant at all. I just say that to make people laugh and he went on to say, âyou start with the bar lowâ and the way that he said it made me cringe and was very offensive. He just comes across as being narcissistic and very insensitive. He lacks compassion and empathy.
Lynn caused me to feel uncomfortable by asking me personal questions about my physical appearance. Itâs not for her to question what I choose to wear or not wear and making comments like that to a customer is very bad customer service. She really offended me.
Susan made several inappropriate comments toward me and for some reason she wanted to know if I own or rent my home. That is none of her business. She may as well have asked me about a whole run down of my financial situation. My home had just flooded and the first thing she says is, âdo you own or rentâ? What does it matter? She didnât even have the decency to say I am so sorry to hear that that happened to you. Susan just asks too many personal questions and seems to be prying to get information out of me.
Kathy caused me to feel incompetent and inferior to her when it comes to her personal spiritual beliefs. She was always pushing Catholicism on me and because of that, I freely chose to tell her about what my religion was. She caused me to feel like she was judging me and even made a very inappropriate and rude statement to me about drug addiction.
DJ doesnât work there any more, but he was extremely disrespectful to me. At that time I was on a very strict diet and he accused me of lying to him about my sodium intake. DJ was a very negative person.
Shirley is amazing. She has great customer service skills and keeps things very professional and respects my boundaries. She always had a smile on her face and I felt very comfortable dealing with her. She didnât pry into my personal life.
Gina is so compassionate and loving. She is so kind and even tried to help me get through the time that Paul was forcefully trying to get me to buy a year membership. Paul is so naive, disrespectful and crass. I am working on forgiveness toward him.
Because of Paul, DJ, Kathy, Susan and Lynn, I do not go there anymore and will not go there anymore and will not recommend this...
Read moreI have lived in Englewood for 20 years and have used the Englewood Rec Center throughout that time. I have always loved going there. Today, was the exception. Connor at the front desk was incredibly rude to me and last week he was rude to my son-in-law. I don't think he likes his job. My grandson is taking swimming lessons. Last week my son-in-law asked Connor about options for purchasing a pass for the facility. Connor told him he lived in Sheridan (he lives in Englewood per his Driver's License) and people in Sheridan are always trying to get an Englewood Resident ID. My son-in-law was not trying to get resident pricing, just options. He walked away without buying a pass. Today, I tried to sign my grandson up for another swim class - I signed up for the current one paying full price. Connor told me I did not live in Englewood (I do and within the district map). I showed him my Resident ID card and he told me someone just printed that and it was not valid (I have used it for 20 yrs). I told him that did not make sense. He turned his screen around and yelled "Look!" It was just my name and address in Englewood - confusing. Another employee came over and told him to just enroll my grandson in the class. He started arguing with her. He told me I needed to put my grandson on his parents account (which they don't have because he was so rude to my son-in-law) before he can be enrolled. The other employee again told him to just enroll my grandson in the class. He refused. I left. What is going on?? My grandson is 2 and loves the swim class and his teacher. I want to pay for this and take him to the classes while my daughter and son-in-law work. Do I have to go to...
Read moreI have been working-out here for over 5 years and I would definitely recommend joining. It is a nice rec-center with reasonable prices and friendly staff. The new equipment they installed a couple years ago really injected some life into this place. They added a "Hoist" room which includes kettle bells, medicine balls, landmine press bar, etc. The weight room is exceptional - it has everything I need and then-some. I like the row machines, stationary bikes and ellipticals too. In general, the facilities are pretty clean. Sometimes the locker rooms get a little messy when a school group pays a visit, but it's always cleaned-up by the next day. I've also never had issues finding a locker that fits all my stuff. A little extra TLC and elbow grease could make this place go from good to great. For example, sometimes broken equipment takes months to get repaired. It would also be great if put more effort into arranging group games and activities, such as basketball, wallyball, and pickleball, for members of all ages. They seem to be very proactive about arranging activities for senior citizens, but not for other age groups. If you would like a nice facility for a variety of workouts that doesn't suffer from the pretentiousness that you find at most big name chain gyms, I think you'll be...
