Overall, pretty good experience! The bad(ish): Experience :So we really didn't experience much bad. There just so happened to have been a party of 50 people (for a birthday of a wonderful 100yr old lady we met) in line as we walked in. Talking to some of the folks in the line (in that group), they had unhooked a chain and moved a 7 foot sign from the queue line... resulting in lines out the door (because 1/2 of the line wasn't being used). I moved it back, as all it did was hurt the flow. I should note that there was a large number of people, in that group, who were elderly and naturally weren't exactly swift. We understood, just would really have liked the staff to help direct the crowd to move things along smoother. Food: We felt the French dressing didn't have too much flavor. Although we didn't use it, the triple tier chocolate fountain looked nothing like the ads or photos. I'm sure it was delicious, but aesthetically speaking it was pretty unimpressive. The flow broke up on the first tier and that made the rest of them very separated instead of a solid curtin of chocolate. Only mention this, as it seems like a staple of the GC brand. The good Experience: The staff seating, cashiering and setting up the plates/silverware all very friendly. Made us feel welcome. Both of us very surprised at just how awesome the steak was. Asked for medium rare, just that. Flavorful and juicy. Mac n cheese, great. The buns, soft and buttery. Roast was tender, pizza had a lot more flavor than it looked, fried chicken was tasty and juicy as well. We really were skeptical about the food, but overall... Pleasantly surprised. Especially being that there was a group of 50 on top of a Sunday evening rush. We'll be back, for sure.

Stopped here for a late lunch after some medical appointments. The weather had closed my original lunch plans, they were open, and I was curious. The price was good for a weekday senior lunch, I had some good news, send was hungry. The food assortment was pretty darn good compared to my memories of Old Country Kitchen and Furr's , (ancient, but enough to keep me away from a non-Chinese buffet for over a decade) the rules of Protein First, Filler Later and Always Get Food From the Fresh Steam Tray came into play immediately. First was the carving stand, no prime rib but a 'smoked beef' that was moist and tasty. Add a little pulled pork, a few popcorn shrimp, some creamed spinach (can't have crisp veg because of denture issues, darn it), and cheesy red potatoes, and we were in business. No complaint so far! The second helping of beef was dry and a little cool, though... however I noticed a manager taking meticulous temp readings of the tray contents. BIG points for that! There were other things that I would have tried, but the gut-bucket was full. A tempura fish (looked like cod or similar white fish), a machaca chicken, and a couple of other things on the dessert station... oh well, I'm meeting up with some other senior friends for lunch in a few days, I can try more stuff then. A couple of words about atmosphere.... if you like Modern Country as background music (which I can tolerate but it would send my wife screaming for the hills), you'll be fine. It can get crowd noisy on weekends as well, so maybe go on a shoulder period of time in the day. Just be aware that things may come out slower than usual. I'll be back, it could have been a LOT worse... As it stands, it goes on the Very Acceptable list if I'm out on my own.

WE'VE BEEN GOING TO THE GOLDEN CORRAL FOR MANY YEARS. I especially enjoy the gigantic tasty strawberries dipped in hot chocolate sauce and the outrageous country music! THE BEST TIME TO GO is definitely Monday - Friday AFTERNOONS. Weekends are much more crowded . . . and more expensive! Since I am a certified nutritionist, I usually start out with the great salad bar and a big bowl of 6 different kinds of beans mixed together. With a generous helping of grilled mushrooms. Fills me up with protein and . . . It's cheaper than chemo! And I can sure save on the gas bill when I get home! (actually, if you eat beans on a regular basis, you'll be able to digest them with no gas problems) Then I usually get some tuna salad, crab salad and steamed broccoli. And those gigantic strawberries for dessert. Some excellent, healthy choices with a good dose of country music! Don't forget to ask for the senior deal discount. The Golden Corral has over 300 locations from coast to coast. Although they had to close 200 during the pandemic. But they're building back better than ever. I really enjoyed two visits to their store in Corpus Christi, Texas. Some of them will serve you cafeteria style. Try it out - it's lots of fun. Just don't eat too much grease . . . You can pick the good stuff if you're smart! (JUST WENT BACK TODAY, 2 YEARS LATER. EXCELLENT, as always. FULL SENIOR BUFFET WITH DRINK, Mon - Fri, 1-3 PM, for just $9.49! Check it out!!!) 🤩🤩🤩😛😛😛

I just got back home from eating here for the 1st time and I will probably never come back. I'll start with the good/decent stuff.

Overall, the place was clean. Its Friday at 7pm when my family arrived. Therefore, I expect some messiness, but it was considerably clean.

Food was okay. Nothing spectacular. Hot wings were obviously just cooked and slammed with hot sauce. No seasoning. Some food had obviously been sitting out for some time and some food items weren't refilled when we arrived. But once again, I understood it was 7pm so I'm not too upset.

In the middle where most of the dinner food is served, they were playing quite loud rap music. I am a fan of rap and have no problem with the genre, but obviously the nature of rap isn't something you expect to hear at a buffet or any restaurant. While it wasn't necessarily bothersome, it comes off as unprofessional nonetheless.

Now the cons. There were flies here and there on food. Kinda killed my appetite, but I already paid $50+. So I just avoided any food I saw flies on.

Bowls weren't refilled right next to the ice cream machine.

The server I had was absolutely horrible. I have worked in customer service all my life with part of it being in the food industry and while I have a soft spot for servers, the service provided by this server was missing entirely and completely unprofessional. She greeted herself, but was so soft spoken it was hard to hear her. And she only came to our table twice, which was to inteoduce herself and bring us our drinks. Mind you when she brought our drinks, which included a kids drink, she didnt provide us with straws. Then she never approached our table again. Halfway through eating my husband's drink was empty and by that time we already had a handful of plates piled up on our table. Not once did she offer us refills or clean the plates off the table. She passed right by our table 7 times. Other folks nearby being served by other servers were getting their tables cleaned while eating and getting refills, but not us. I typically leave a good tip when eating at Golden Corral regardless of the fact that they dont bring my food, but due to the lack of customer service, I left without leaving a tip for the 1st time ever.

Also, the manager felt the need to communicate with servers loudly and in front of customer's server's schedule/it is time to leave. Which made other customers visibly uncomfortable.

Overall, the experience was not worth the $50+ we paid. Customer service was non existent, employees were unprofessional, and food...

So me and my family went there yesterday and honestly after yesterday I don't want to go back now because first of all my son likes to eat cheese pizza and at the time they only had a spinach and tomato pizza and I asked one of the cooks that were working back if they could make a cheese pizza they looked at me all stupid so I spoke to them in Spanish and asked him if they can make a cheese pizza she's like I don't know how to make a cheese pizza she was asking the other cook how to make it and the other cook was telling her to tell me Tell him we can't make it that whatever's out there that we have to do with it and without skipping a beat I told him either you can make it or else I can get your manager involved and have him make it and you guys can get yelled at they said okay we will make it after being snarky and rude and when a pepperoni pizza came out don't get me wrong I eat pepperoni but my kid doesn't then they proceeded to talk s* saying why did I ask for a cheese pizza if I grabbed pepperoni I turned around and tell him I will eat pepperoni my kid does not like pepperoni he likes cheese so if there's a problem we can get the manager involvedthen when I went to go get a piece of steak they try to give me is the smallest pieces ever with the most fat on it and on top of it I asked for rare well skipping another beat here comes the manager he was rude as hell by the way didn't catch his name and he said we can't give you rare steak because our meat is tenderized which is b* because I used to work at the Texas Roadhouse right next to them on Sheridan in Santa Fe and their meat is not tenderized I know what tenderize meat looks like and that was not it then he tried to tell me all we can't give you rare steak because it's against the law BS once again I worked at Texas Roadhouse so therefore I know it's not against the law but whatever route service there from the cooks and the manager but the cashier was nice and sweet which I really did appreciate and our busser Paco or Pedro was really polite and really attempte to us and I hope upper management can train their people a little bit better especially after I just paid $75 something dollars just to eat...

I had to write this review as I was awestruck and baffled at the response I got from the manager, my husband decided we would treat ourselves to Christmas Eve lunch because we would be busy cooking for Christmas Day later, when we arrived the atmosphere was pretty laid back the highlight of the visit was Kelly and Amazing Sweet Professional Host who was working her butt off to keep drinks coming for everyone in her section and also keeping her tables spotless as people put their plates to the side Kelly came to once again clean soiled plates and my husband had requested another sweet tea there was a table to the west of us with three Mexican men Spanish speaking who as she was cleaning our table one kept DEMANDING!!! That she come to their table NOW me and my husband are of Hispanic descent and it angered me at his disrespect of her and us so I told him wait do you see she’s tending our table he got angry and said FU to us what the problem was is that Kelly was a very pretty shapely young lady and he was demanding her attention I went to the front and asked for the manager and explained what just happened he in turn told another man who instead of apologizing to us for this man’s bad behavior towards us and his hard working employee went to their table and said what do you need and immediately accommodated them for the disrespectful behavior displayed what is happening in our world when you bow down to the offender and do not apologize to the person who just spent money at your establishment and tried to speak up for your employee who was being disrespected by a egotistical to much testosterone ignorant man who didn’t even have respect for himself I will not be back there are plenty of other places that will appreciate my hard earned money and my manners of the establishment and I hope Kelly finds another job that appreciates and values her hard work and is concerned...
