Took my kids to the Stars Center in Farmers Branch to go for a youth drop in and had their skates sharpened at the pro shop there. The sharpening wasn't what we were used to being from Minnesota especially after reading the some of the reviews online for sharpening. I went back that night and got my skates sharpened thinking it was a one off but the guy that was supposed to be sharpening skates, was no where to be found, but ended up being upstairs in the bar drinking.. The skate cut I got wasn't anything to write home about either. We did get help from the rink staff on finding the longer haired guy who worked at the shop.. Hopefully the rink can maybe do some training with the pro shop guys there. But the staff we did talk to were very helpful on getting my kids signed up for their House Leagues that just started. We were happy to find out we could join a team even being late sign ups. Being new to the area it was nice to find someone who would go the extra mile to help us.
The rink itself was very nice and well kept. It wasn't like the old barns were used to skating at in the cities. Locker rooms were big and showers were like most rinks. We did like the upstairs area so you can go and watch games or relax before playing. We will definitely be back to the rink... just not their pro...
Read moreWow what an experience The O2 Performance Aquatics swim team had their IceBreaker End of the year bash at the Dr Pepper Star Center. What a combination swimmers on Ice. The banquet was upstairs in one of the spacious party rooms and the swimmers and coaches braved the ice. Many had not skated before. One coach however was a pro from the Midwest and flaunted her skills for her team. And of course being a competitive swim team they caught on quick so no one would out do the other. They put the head coach in the penalty box with a camera to catch all the action. All the assistant coaches guarded their swimmers from falls and breaks. The staff at the front desk was efficient and very helpful with our over 50 plus swimmers and other family members As the coordinator I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. I am happy to say it was so awesome, I had a hard time getting the swimmers off the ice to come up stairs for the banquet dinner. The room was great we were able to arrange it to accommodate our hot foods, plenty of plugs. Our coolers were huge that carried the drinks, ice, salads etc they had a huge dolly and elevator. The wall upstairs gives a great view of the rink for the non skater to watch.. If I could give them 10 stars I would everyone had a great time and we will...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. The StarCenter in Farmers Branch is the definition of ‘run-down.’ The ice feels like it hasn’t been resurfaced since the early 2000s and the locker rooms smell like a wet sock left in a gym bag. The place looks like it hasn’t been cleaned properly in years — sticky floors, trash bins overflowing, and bathrooms that make you want to hold it until you get home.
As for the programs — laughably disorganized. Coaches act like they’re doing you a favor by showing up, and the scheduling is a total mess. You’ll sign up for a session only to find out it’s been canceled or delayed with no notice. The figure skating program is treated like an afterthought compared to hockey, and it shows in the lack of support, resources, and respect.
Honestly, this rink is a disgrace to the Dallas area. There are far better rinks around — don’t waste your time, money, or sanity here. If mediocrity had a home, it would be the StarCenter in...
